80 crore people to get wheat for Rs 2, rice at Rs 3 for next three months

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SHP)

New Delhi, Mar 25: With a hope to support people in the time of financial distress, union minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday announced prices for wheat and rice. The revised rates will be applicable for a period of 3 months, for now. Over 80 crore people will be the beneficiaries of these concessional rates.

"The cost of wheat which is at Rs 27 will be provided at Rs 2. The cost of rice which is at Rs 37 will be available at Rs 3," Javadekar said.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Javadekar said, "The Central Government will provide 80 crore people every month with 7kg ration per person at just Rs 2 which actually costs Rs 27. Cost of rice which is Rs 33 will be provided at Rs 3 per kg. This is for 80 crore people. This is the world's largest food security system and Rs 1800 crores will be spent on it. 3 months of advance ration will be provided to the state governments."

Furthermore, he added, "As you know all workers in the Central Government will get their salaries, but the contractual labourers they will also get their salaries. Private companies have been urged to provide workers with minimum wages and the response has been good."

The I&B minister has also urged people to not believe in rumours and avoid panic. Javadekar stated that despite the lockdown, essential services and shops will remain operational. "State governments have been asked to start a helpline. The Home Ministry is also going open up their helpline today," he added.

Meanwhile, to mitigate hardships faced by economically weaker sections of society, several state governments have announced increased rations and free meals.

    Yesterday ...
A Communist like thinker was asking ..
.......What about food u ? Giving an impression that he would like it to fall free on his plate....
Well measures have been taken by the Centre to take care step by step for the first 21 days initially. States should implement schemes effectively. There is no point jumping the gun and thinking far far ahead. The idea should be to take each day at a time Survive and Move forward in this critical times...
Detailed planning and other schemes after we survive this scare and being safe.

    Ignorance is bliss.

    1. Doctors and nurses are getting infected. Because of lack of PPE. India was exporting it till 19th March. Now we have more requirement than our capacity we are desperately trying to import the same.

    2. Availability of food grain does not mean it is automatically reaching people in need by some kind of magic. Govt is just started to talk to companies like flipcart to find a way for delivery. Implies just talking now after the shutdown begin.

    3. Flip cart closed their operation today because delivery boys were harassed by police. They dumped tonnes of food grains and vegetables tdy.

Thankfully for Modi he has supporters who reason out a logic or excuse. Modi as PM had to be supported in this time of need. But not blindly like DeMo, that causes more pain to the country than gain when implimented without plan.

What are you trying to convey ?
    1.That doctors are suffering OR
    2.That ignorance is bliss OR
    3.Flipkart is suffering OR
    4.DeMO still haunts you OR
5.Modiji has a large following ...OR
    What else ??
    Save everything for another day.
Now and today let us save ourselves and help save others from Corona.Stand united.
This is not the time for petty politics.

The food security act implimented by UPA that forced govt's to maintain food grain stock. Great initiative then opposed by BJP, used by Modi Govt.

NDRF, set up by UPA is at the fore front of providing relief.

BJP leaders who were was asking people earlier to drink Gomutra and dump in Gobar, have disappeared. Like the statue of Sardar built paying 3000cr to chineese, silently stares speaks volume who did what for nation.

The ration shop in the city is shut. Where is this distribution taking place ? In villages ? Just because they have BPL card ? What will the city people eat ?

Nevertheless, because of Corona, grains that were otherwise rotting in granaries after it rains, will come to some use.

OK, it's for people who have little money but still they need other things finally to eat wheat or rice. What about people and thier families who do not have money as they depend on day today wages for 21 days unless you provide them cooked food???. It is uncertain for them after 21 days to return back to work.
