Mumbai, Dec 8: Model Co-operative Bank, which was earlier known as Mangalorean Catholic Co-operative Credit Society, organized a programme to distribute scholarships to shareholder’s talented children, an annual feature at Xavier Institute of Engineering College auditorium, Mahim (West), here recently.
Model Co-operative Bank chairman Albert W D’Souza presided. Fr John Rumao, parish priest of St Xavier parish, Ville Parle (West), was the chief guest.
Speaking after distributing scholarships, Fr Rumao terming students as national wealth said that education institutions have a greater responsibility to make them believers of God. Education assures better future for students and at the jet-set age, there will be no limitations for studies. Therefore, the scholarships in kind will go a long way in promoting quality education to the talented students, added Fr Rumao.
Albert W D’Souza, in his presidential address, said that it’s only education that can set an individual free from ignorance. At the present times, it’s also essential to develop burning desire, in order to achieve something worthwhile in life than eligibility. Meanwhile, Albert called on students to develop those qualities, which can stay with them steadfast in life, he urged.
Model Co-operative Bank founder John D’Silva said that living life in accordance with the known traditions and practices is expected from the community youth, who should first embody the qualities of respecting the elders, teachers and parents. Good fortunes will follow sooner, he added.
Bank deputy chairman Professor A P D’Souza, directors Lazarus Menezes, Marita D’Mello, Paul Nazareth and Philip Pinto were present on the dais.
Bank chief executive officer and general manager Frank R Louis welcomed the gathering. Deputy general manager William R D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Edward Rasquinha compered the programme.
