Mithun Rai warns of protest over permission to outsiders for medical treatment in Mangaluru

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 11: Youth Congress president Mithun Rai has warned of protest against district administration if more private hospitals in the district are allowed for the medical treatment of outsiders from Kerala.

In a press release, Mithun Rai said, "Dakshina Kannada district administration has already permitted K S Hegde Hospital for the treatment of non-coronavirus patients from neighbouring states. This is done to facilitate treatment of patients who suffer from cardiac related ailments to get quick and timely treatment.

Mithun Rai

"There are many taluks in Dakshina Kannada district. People of taluks like Beltangady, Sullia, Kadaba, Puttur, Bantwal and Moodbidri depend on private hospitals of Mangaluru during sickness. If the district administration allows more private hospitals for the treatment of patients from neighbouring states, bowing to pressure from the BJP government, there is no doubt that people of our district will suffer.

"The people of Dakshina Kannada district have already shown their concern for the people of Kasargod and given K S Hegde Hospital for their treatment. There are chances that even patients who are infected with coronavirus may land in the hospital for treatment. This will have adverse effect on the health of the doctors and nurses who are serving in that hospital.

"Out of the people arriving from gulf countries to Mangaluru, 65 per cent are from Kerala and 35 per cent from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Asha activists of Dakshina Kannada have strictly followed quarantine of these people in a disciplined manner and prevented the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. But as travellers from Kasargod did not follow home quarantine rule of Mangaluru International Airport in their district, the number of coronavirus infections are more in Kasargod district.

"Even the neighbouring districts of Udupi, Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru also depend on private hospital of Mangaluru when they have sickness and emergency. Hence, the district administration and state government should work without succumbing to the pressure of private hospitals in the city.

"If the district administration allows more private hospitals to open up for patients of neighbouring states, we will resort to protest,” stated Mithun Rai in the press release.

    Mangalurean or Keralite??

Tell uncle pannari to take all his nurses from Managalore and build hospital in Kasargod, (if he has guts) like the Chinese built 1000 bed modern hospital in 10 days.

Mallu nurses come to us because they have no hospitals in Kerala., while they have too much money to build international airports, which will be rendered useless soon due to loss of jobs in the Gulf countries.

Mallu nurses will come in big numbers to Mangalore looking for jobs.

    Jai Hind.

If the same rule applies, then Kerala border residence should consider stop using the Mangalore International Airport in the future that charges passengers exorbitantly comparing to the International flight operating in Kerala.
The revenue losses to Mangalore Airport will significant if the Kerala retaliates economically.

No state in India is self sustainable. Let's not forget Kerala is part of the integral part of the India. The Maharashtra has more death in India than Kerala.

Will Mr.Rai will go to Belgam and seal the border with Maharashtra?

Sealing of District / State / County borders are part of normal WHO protocols to contain spread of disease. Kannur border or any other district border is sealed on the basis of the above protocol and not because it is bordering Kasaragod. GOK app clearly gives the number of patients treated in each district and out of the same, how many belong to other district. In fact the person expired today in Kerala is from Mahe (Puducherry State).

Sealing of borders does not mean that critically ill patients can’t travel within the country for treatment. That was the essence behind the Supreme Court judgement. The borders were not opened as a favour as mentioned, but due to the pressure of the Kerala Government and Supreme Court order. Now that no one has asked / agreed for more hospitals to be opened, Mr. Rai’s statement is nothing but fishing in troubled waters.

In this context let me tell you; five years back, flights from Mangalore to Middle East costed a bomb whereas it was cheaper to travel to Middle East from Kozhikode and many of our Mangalorean friends used to travel through Kozhikode. Prices from Mangalore were jacked up just to take advantage of the population from Kasaragod, who frequently fly to Middle East and who were also primarily dependant on the Mangalore airport. Now that the Kannur airport became a reality, Mangalore airport is only airport with negative growth in terms of number of passengers since 2018. You need not wait for another five years for a similar trend in terms of Mangalore hospitals.

Only two options !!! Either handover the Kasargod district to Karnataka as it was earlier, or Develop the district like Mangalore, instead of making four international airports in a state which is as big as our four district from Uttara Kannada to Coorg!!!!!
Failed to do either, don't come to Mangalore. Go to Kochi or Thiruvanantapuram.

Even though Mithun Rai might face backlash from his voter base for this, I totally support him on this decision. I understand that it is a harsh decision, but it is the right decision, under these circumstances.
This decision is only out of his education and awareness of the healthcare system, as he comes from a family of doctors.
We must appreciate that Mithun takes decision based on reality and not voter base.

It is impossible to fight this virus of we show humanitarian concerns everytime and let these people come in. This has been a joke for many years and kerala government has forgotten kasargod. We have already offered 1 hospital if more are offered forget corona we will protect cause our families won't have place for treatment

Yes. Kerala is big state too with so many hospital in other districts of Kerala. Instead of awaiting so long time until SC ordered the decision for any emergency cases which is out of control anyone hands.
In the mean time they would have travel to on their own state medical facilities where their govt is very active and get treated.
