Udupi, Apr 11: Bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo has conveyed his best wishes on the eve of Easter.

He said, “The festival of Easter to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ after forty days of prayers, fasting, donations and penance, has come again. The festival is of celebrations remembering with devotion, the historic incidents and inculcating in our daily lives the sufferings, pain, death on the cross and above all, the resurrection of Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago.

“The festival also is the celebration of the historic event in which God freed people who were suffering under the servitude of Egypt and took them to new land and new life. Therefore, Easter is the divine victory over persecution. It proclaims that death is not the end.

“While the entire mankind is shaken by the fear of deadly coronavirus, Easter festival is like the silver lining in between dark clouds. Sufferings, pain and diseases are not permanent. They have an end. God has created us not to be defeated, but to be victorious against sufferings. Therefore, let the words of holy man Job asking ‘Why should not we receive sorrow from God when we receive joy from him’, be an inspiration for us.

“Let us pray specially for scientists who fight against coronavirus, doctors and medical fraternity, officials who drive away insecurity from people and fill them with confidence, and all likeminded people who dedicate their lives for the poor, hungry and devastated, elected representatives who work for the people. May the risen Jesus instil hope of new life in everybody’s houses and minds. Hearty greetings of Easter to one and all,” he said.
