Karnataka Legislative Council Election –Congress - JDS Alliance Wins 15 out of 25 Seats
Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Dec 21: Counting in respect of the state legislative council election held on December 18 has been concluded. All the results have since been announced.

Out of the 25, the Congress Party has bagged ten seats, BJP has got ten, while the JDS has been able to get five seats.  Each of the parties has expressed elation at the result. The election was necessitated in view of the fact that 25 MLCs representing local bodies are set to retire by rotation on January 5.

While JDS state leader, H D Kumaraswamy, in a statement, said that the BJP has been shown the door by the people because of its maladministration. He said that the BJP would not even have got the seats it has won now, but for some mistakes committed by the Congress and the JDS, and that the BJP would have bitten the dust, if these mistakes had not been committed. He said that his party would have got five seats even without the alliance, and the main aim of striking an understanding with the Congress was to defeat the BJP.

On the other hand, Yeddyurappa, who had earlier said that his party would get 15 seats,  expressed happiness at bagging ten seats, claiming that his party has done well, in spite of the fact that it did not have strong base at the local bodies level, and claimed that the party would have done better, if electoral understanding had not been reached between the JDS and the Congress parties.

Tejaswini Gowda, Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Bangalore rural constituency, lashed out at the state Congress working president, D K Shivkumar, holding him responsible for the poor performace of the party in the council election. She sought his immediate resignation.

Former Chief Minister, Dharam Singh, said that the people have tought a lesson to the communal party, BJP, and advised Chief Minister, Yeddyurappa to mend his ways.  The list of the candidates who have won, is as follows:

Congress: T John (Kodagu), Dayanand Reddy (Bangalore City), Srikant Gotnekar (Karwar), Nazeer Ahmed (Kolar), S R Patil (Bagalkot), Srinivas Mane (Dharwad - 1), A V Gayatri (Chikmagalur), Pratapchandra Shetty (Dakshina Kannada - 1), Allamaprabhu (Gulbarga and Veerakumar (Belgaum - 1).

BJP: Srinivas Poojary (Dakshina Kannada - 2), R K Siddaramanna (Shimoga), G H Tippa Reddy (Chitradurga), Basavaraj Patil (Bidar), Shivaraj Sajjan (Dharwad - 2), Halappa Achar (Raichur), Kavajagimutt (Belgaum - 2), Mrityunjay Jinaga (Bellary) and Prof Mallikarjunappa (Mysore - 2).

Do you find am an uneducated person in my comments that clearly shows how much illiterate you are? Did Mr. Modi make 0 voting compulsory and did I commented for the 0 voting? This is from your ignorant mind reads my comment as such. I quote your words “Please if you are an uneducated brut means dont spoil others who knows the value of voting. “ Unquote. I adhere to the value of the vote and your explanation for this is by ignorance because I have commented for the compulsory vote and not for the value of the vote. I adhere to my duty. Even to do the duty or not to do the duty it is my right. To vote or not to vote it is my right. Compulsion will never work anywhere in the world learn the history first and do not support and spoil your kind of brunt people.

Mr. Joesph Gonsalves, If you are educated you would have not spoke about not voting. Everyone should vote & its our duty to vote. If you dont want to support any party(but u seems supporter of congress but still congress could not win) there is one option called ZERO voting. Learn from experts. Please if you are an uneducated brut means dont spoil others who knows the value of voting.

One can look at a half-filled glass and claim it is "half-empty" or "half-full". Why only 10 out of 25 for BJP? If they were powerful and good, should they not get more? And for combined secular forces, what happened to the other 9 of the 24? Didn't you get all secular votes? Lowering our scale for comparison, then comparing with the lowered scale, doesn't set us to greater heights. It is as good as "we are where we were". Anyways, does it matter which party at power, if the individuals aren't there to serve, it doesn't matter which party they belong.

Comparing to the money and power used BJP bagging 10 seats is as great as Congress/JDS bagging 15 seats. Nothing surprising. Afterall all these parties are birds of the same feather.

Modi should come up with a legislation that demands minimum qualification for MLA's and MP's  The bill should also ensure criminals and corrupt people dont qualify for candidature. Is he scared he wont be able to contest? Prior to getting voting reforms it is important to reform the politicians who contest. If two cheats are contesting there is little people can do with voting.

Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak, I quote your words Shri Narendra Modi bought a legislation for compulsory voting in gujarath. First time in India. Unquote. Is it not a dictatorship? Where is the freedom and right to vote? Am I not free to vote or not to vote? How the government can snatch away ones freedom? A grave error indeed.

No Indian wants division and hate. Only a minority of majority believe in hate and division . We believe in our welfare with the welfare of masses, our peace with the peace of masses, our safety with the safety of masses. Selfish and falsehood is temporary and is bound to perish. Those hwo support and co operate with falsehood are not bound to last long.

I think Congress and JD(s), must contend with the seats they gained, looking at the money BJP has spent and goodies thrown to the voters. One TV footage showed 1000's of voters hearded by reddy's in resorts.

This is really a setback for congress as it had 19 of 25 seats. It managed to get 10 with the help of JDS. Poor congress, it always look at them for help. But nothing to worry, they have the same old readymade answer to hide their helplessness - "WE COMBINED THE SECULAR VOTES"

Good result for the secular alliance. Just passed result for the BJP. Lesson no 1 to United Secular, united you stand and fare well in future elections.Divided you shall fall flat.Lesson no.2 Never think of rising tall individually. Lesson no. 1 to BJP, do not divide the community on the basis of religion. No 2,never support the moral police. Karnataka People got the taste of BJP Governance. They feel that there is no difference or you are worst some time.Your survival depends on the support of Renukacharya and Reddy faction.Problem is CM can't satisfy all of your team mates.

because of alliance they got 15 seats. And their is not having guts to face election alone in both JDS and Congress. Better JDS merge with Congress or ask congress merge with JDS.
