Mangalore: Hafta Threat – Dist Police Nab Three Kannada Rakshana Vedike Activists

Mangalore, Dec 23: City north police nabbed three Kannada Rakshana Vedike activists for threatening businessmen in the city through calls demanding hafta.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday December 23, superintendent of police Dr A S Rao said that following a tip-off, police checked a Maruthi Omni (KA 19 MA 4290) near Avery circle in the city and thereby arrested Jayananda Ganiga, resident of Manjeswar and Chandrahas K Moolya, resident of Ashokanagar traveling in the van. On interrogation, the two revealed the name of third person, Abdul Latheef, resident of K C Nagar near Tokkottu, who was arrested while traveling in a Maruthi Alto car (GA 01 E 2873), he added.  

The two vehicles, mobile phones and several sim cards of different network providers were seized from the accused said Dr A S Rao adding that they had recently called a business man, who owns an enterprise near Bunder demanding hafta of Rs 5 lac. 









All the three accused confessed that they were Kannada Rakshana Vedike activists and one of the accused Jayananda Ganiga had affixed a name plate on his car that stated he was the district president of Samara Sene of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike. He also has underworld links, said Dr Rao.  

The investigation is being undertaken under the direction of the assistant superintendent of police Amit Singh. North circle police inspector Vinay Gaonker and sub-inspector Manjunath K R and their team undertook the operation.  

Chain Snatcher Duo Arrested - Rs 5 Lac Worth Gold Seized

In another case, District Crime and Intelligence Bureau personnel seized 288 grams of gold amounting to Rs 5 lac approximately and also arrested duo, Sathya and Devamma, residents of Kumble in this conection.  

Both were involved in the chain snatching cases at crowded locations in the city. A Bajaj Discover bike has also been seized from the accused. DCIB inspector Venkatesh Prasanna and his men conducted the operation.

    Good Job DK Police. These kind of activists are increasing . These people need some treatment from the police, they are here only to exploit innocent people. Because of these gundaas our countries peace n harmony has been destroyed. If this so called haftha vasoolees are not put behind the bars comman citizens cannot survive....so DK police please consider this matter seriously and punish these gundaas accordingly.     Day by day new names and types of Vedikes are coming up in Mangalore like Mushrooms. Hafta Vasool was in Bombay before now it is started in Mangalore. Today's unemployed youngsters are trying to grab money and valuables from business peoples, Vendors and from poor public. Please put them behind bars and give rigorous imprisonment until they know what they are doing!!!.
