Udupi: Corona-positive pregnant woman from Bhatkal cured, discharged

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (ANK)

Udupi, Apr 24: The pregnant woman from Bhatkal, who was diagnosed with coronavirus infection, and was treated at the Dr T M A Pai Hospital here, has been cured. She was discharged from the hospital on Friday, April 24.

A 26-year-old lady in fifth month of her pregnancy, had tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted into a hospital in the city on April 9. Her test results came negative on April 21 and 23 after treatment and was hence discharged.

Addressing media, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said, "Today is a good day for Udupi with the discharge of a coronavirus-positive patient. It was difficult to treat a pregnant lady in Uttar Kannada district. It was a challenge for them to save the child and hence hospitals had rejected to treat her. During initial days, we too had rejected the patient as the district administration and TMA Pai agreement instructs to only treat Udupi district patients. Following direction from the chief minister and chief secretary, we accepted this case.

"We are delighted to discharge the lady who is now healthy along with her child. I thank the administrative board of TMA Pai Hospital which has achieved this feat. On behalf of the district administration, I congratulate Dr Shashikiran and his team," he said.

The patient who was discharged said, “I was in fear during the initial days as I was alone and pregnant too. After being admitted to this hospital, the way I was treated, the support of doctors and nurses was immense. I do not have any words to describe the way everyone took care of me. I never felt like being admitted in a hospital. Homely care given to me helped me recover completely.”

SP Vishnuvardhana, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, district Covid nodal officer Dr Prashanth Bhat, district survey officer Dr Vasudeva Upadhyaya, Dr Premanand, KMC’s medial superintendent Dr Avinash Shetty, Covid hospital’s Dr Shashikiran and Covid hospital staff were present.

It may be recalled, due to the strict lockdown in place in the state, no one is allowed to move from one district to another. However, the case of the pregnant woman admitted to hospital in Udupi, though she is a resident of Bhatkal, is considered as extraordinary and that is why she is being treated in Udupi as per the orders of the Karnataka state government.

Kudos and respects 🙏 to Udupi’s COVID frontline doctors, administration and warriors for treating&curing the patient, and discharging her with honor🙏.

However, it is a bit disappointing 😔 not to see much appreciation pour-in from all quarters, especially the folks who always lambast the government and administration. It can’t be just one sided negative banter always,...professional commitment and good work, by every Indian needs to be appreciated n respected.

Hope everyone understand that respecting everyone and concern for all can make huge difference while fighting the deadly epidemic as well as other maladies of nature. If ones gods are allowed to fight with each other the humanity at large will get wiped out. Just listen to your Govt and Officials of the day and we can save not only self but, even the society at large.

    People,

I see everybody in US wearing Face Mask like there in India....here we always wear Hand Gloves while going out....Curious why they don't wear Hand Gloves in India while going out ???...

Face Mask protects others getting others infected from Corona Virus....Gloves protect us from getting infected from others...

There are many who have the Virus but don't show any symptoms...but could spread Virus without knowing...that is the biggest problem folks...

Wear hand gloves wherever possible while going out...

    ...Tak...Takk...

If you don't use gloves properly then there is more chances getting Corona virus. It is better to keep washing hands and use hand sanitizer.

    - Gloves is better, only if you can have new gloves regularly like doctors & do not have facility for washing Hands. But, Indians reuse gloves, which will spread corona virus.

    - Washing Hands with Soap, Melts the lipid layer around virus & kills it. If you wear Gloves & touch Mobile or some money, virus will get transferred to Mobile Cover. Later, every gloves you wear will have virus, if you use Phone.

    - Indians do not shake hand, give Cheek kiss or Hugging like Americans. We do not have close physical contact mostly.

    - Indian condition - Regular Washing hands with Soap is Safe & Economical
