Kundapur: Eight- year-old girl drowns in Varahi canal

Kundapur, Apr 24: In a tragic incident reported on Friday, April 24, a girl drowned in Varahi canal. The incident took place at Janata colony, Talamakki Brahmanagara near Hunsemakki.

The girl who drowned has been identified as Meghana Kulal (8), daughter of Janata colony residents Bhasker Kulal and Laxmi Kulal.

The girl was playing with her elder brother. Though both the children slipped and fell into the canal, the boy caught hold of a plant and raised an alarm. Locals who heard him came rushing and rescued him. However, Meghana was washed away due to strong current of water.

Locals looked for Meghana and her body was found at a distance. Meghana was a third standard student at government public school, Bidkalkatte.

The body of Meghana was handed over to her family after post-mortem at Kundapur government hospital. A case is registered at Kota police station.
