Mangaluru: Senior priest Fr Hilary Sanctis passes away at 87

Mangaluru, Apr 24: Senior priest of Mangalore diocese Fr Hilary Sanctis passed away on Friday April 24. He was 87.

Fr Hilary Sanctis was born on March 16, 1933 at Sampige parish. He was ordained priest for the diocese of Mangalore on December 4, 1961. He served as assistant parish priest at Pezar and Bendore parish.

He was chaplain at Marishram and Panja parishes. He served as the parish Priest of Permude, Tallur and Palimar parishes.

In 1993, at age 60, he retired from the active ministry. During his retirement time, he helped in parishes in the pastoral ministry.

His mortal remains will be brought to St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu at 1.30 pm on Saturday, April 25. The funeral will be held at Mangalore diocese priests' cemetery at Valencia at 4 pm.

    A very humble , down to earth priest,. I remember Fr Hilary used to frequently visit St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar, to assist the Dominican Priests during my childhood days. It was a pleasure to listen to him. As somebody mentioned even though he retired early , he was very active till sometime back while he was at vianney home. May his soul R.I.P

    Fr. Hilary a beautiful person. At the old age of 87 he was celebrating mass in diocese local parishes was laudable. Very meticulous, soft spoken, well organised and always up to date with his work. Very kind to the poor and the needy, his community work with downtrodden cobblers and under privileged tribal community near opposite Ashoknagar Dominic Parish is guarded secret. May God reward him with eternal bliss.

    I still remember this Priest, who frequently visited my Parish (St Dominic Church, Ashoknagar) to assist the Dominic Priests, in my childhood Days. A Priest who use to quotes Kannada poems in Sermons with a unique style touching the hearts of the listeners,

    Fr. Hilary may have retired at 60 but was active till the end. I used to see him msintaining the garden of Vianney Home. He also offered his services to town parishes on request. He had a flair for Kannada language and could quote Sarvajnna with ease. In my chats with him, I found him sharp and forward thinking, always humane. May his soul rest in peace.
