Bengaluru: Deputy commissioners instructed to facilitate transport of migrant workers, labourers

Bengaluru, Apr 24: T M Vijay Bhaskar, chief secretary of the government of Karnataka, realizing the plight of migrant workers and labourers, has instructed the deputy commissioners in the state to arrange for suitable transport facilities for them to reach home.

He stated in a media release that migrant workers and labourers stranded in several districts in the state want to return to their villages or for construction and other works. The union home ministry has permitted to shift the workers within the state so that ordinary agricultural and other commercial activities may resume.

Therefore, according to the Standard Operating Protocol dated April 19, suitable action is requested. The workers can be sent in KSRTC buses to 40% capacity ensuring social distance. The workers should be mandatorily provided masks and gloves. The process should be started immediately, stated the press release.
