INS Bhavnagar Decommissioned

Mumbai, Dec 26: In a solemn ceremony INS Bhavnagar was decommissioned at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
 


The ship was commissioned at Riga USSR on April 27, 1979by Sheila Gujral, wife of I K Gujral, then ambassador of India to USSR. The ship derives her name from the port of Bhavnagar in Jamnagar district of Gujarat.  INS Bhavnagar was the fourth ship of the 19th Mine Counter Measure Squadron based at Mumbai and also part of local flotilla.
 
The ship in its illustrious career spanning over 30 glorious years of commission has taken part in numerous operations conducted in the Navy and seen 25 commands.
