Pandemic, blessing in disguise for India: Health Minister

New Delhi, Apr 28 (IANS): Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said that the coronavirus pandemic has come in India as a blessing in disguise as it has given impetus to various activities under the Make in India project.

The Health Minister while addressing a video conferencing with autonomous institutes and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Department of Biotechnology, said, "this pandemic has come as a blessing in disguise for India as lots of activities have also started in make in India. We are now manufacturing PPEs and have over hundred manufacturers in the country. We are making 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh PPEs everyday in the country".

Harsh Vardhan also said that the whole country has been waiting very anxiously for the contribution of the Indian scientists whether it is about discovery of new drug or successful trial of drugs which are used at present, or discovery of a vaccine or indigenous testing kits.

According to the Health Minister pre-lockdown the doubling rate of the cases in India was around 3 days but for the last 14 days it had been 8.2 and for the last 7 days it was 10.2. In the last 3 days it is 10.9. "This is a very significant progress," said the Health Minister.

"A hundred and 29 districts where there are a significant number of cases, around 15 or less, we call them hotspots. These are the places where we are focusing our approach on cluster containment and disease outbreak containment strategies. There is house to house survey in five kilometers area. Right now in the last 24 hours there are 16 states which have not reported any new case," Harsh Vardhan said.

Lauding the efforts of the Department of Biotechnology, Harsh Vardhan said that it is supporting a number of companies in research and vaccine development.

"We have made quite a progress in that direction," said he, adding, "Genome sequencing activities have started on thousand viruses in biotechnology. Indigenous antibody test kits and RT-PCR kits are doing an exemplary job and ICMR ramped up their testing capacity. Right now we have our indigenous kits."

The Health Minister stressed, "We all have to see that we deliver results which could be converted into useful implementable solution for the people of India."

what kind of Dr is he. i think there is no shortage of this kind in bjp . he is calling the suffering of the people a blessing to hide their inefficiency to run the Govt. even if u think the manufacturing of ppe kits as a boon, i think he doesn't want the pandemic to finish so that ppe business can flourish.
shame on these kind of mentalities
    God save our country.Jai Hind.

What a responsible statement by these ministers in our present government!. It is the wisdom of Indian electorate who voted them to power by majority by the magic wand of "EVM's and Electoral Bonds"!!!. Now Corona Pandemic is a blessing in disguise for P.M CARES Fund which it never happened since India's Independence.

Even though there is 'Disaster Management act, 2005 exist, PM Modi government has not appointed nine members committee for different political group to handle the crisis. The relief fund is diverted to 'PM Care' have no transparency. The death rate is touching 1000 mark but none of the victims family has been paid as per the act. India is still importing 'Made in China' defective kit and PPE that many of the Europe Union countries has rejected. Less than 1% of the 1.3 Billion has not tested neither government has adequate kits are not available.

The PM Modi BJP government instead of investing in scientific research for vaccine, giving advertisement to look for 'Corona Asana' using Yoga.Today India is far behind Pakistan handling crisis which his government make use for political advantage.

This Pandemic is blessing in disguise for India unless Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan own dear ones are not among the numbers that has killed by the pandemic. Being professional Doctor he is incompetent to handle this crisis.

    As expected.
No Indians can term this pandemic as blessing for India or Indians.
    But, certainly for BJP yes.
They can now hide all their failures behind this. You name any sector.

Insensitive remarks by the Health Minister. Does he understand the sufferings of people especially the migrant workers and daily wagers? They are finding difficult even to get one time food. Total economy has collapsed and we do not know how the people will get their salaries in the coming moths.

'Make in India' cannot be built on the human suffering. There is serious problem with this government. Forget about any plans to come out of the situation, they are not able to give solace or confidence to the people even in verbal interactions.

We people need to do something collectively. Forget about these politicians

Pandemic is indeed a blessing in disguise. All unproductive, non-tax-paying, old citizens will perish. That's it. If 'Make in India' that didn't yield fruits since six years is expected to work out because of Corona, you are daydreaming.

Well, it better work because several lakhs of Indians from abroad are going to end up back home very soon because of job loss wherever they so far were.
