Punjab Cong to raise national flag to protest Centre's bias

Chandigarh, Apr 28 (IANS): The Punjab Congress here on Tuesday asked people in the state to raise the national flag at their homes on May 1 to protest against the Centre's discrimination against non-BJP-ruled states in extending support in the Covid-19 fight.

It was proposed by state Congress president Sunil Jakhar and seconded by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

The Chief Minister said the state was losing Rs 3,360 crore revenue a month due to the pandemic and the lockdown. It would touch Rs 50,000 crore in a year, he added.

The state had received no help from the Centre to tackle the crisis, he said.

The event, coinciding with May Day (Labour Day), would underscore the right of Punjab to the central aid in this unprecedented crisis, said Jakhar.

"Punjab is an integral part of India and the central government can't discriminate against us," he said, asserting the party would demand Rs 20,000 crore immediate relief to support the state's efforts to combat the Covid-19 crisis.
