Srinagar, Apr 28 (IANS): One militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter at Zainpora in south Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Tuesday.
"Op Melhura (Shopian). One terrorist killed. Joint operation in progress," the army said in a brief statement.
According to the details received here, security forces had a specific input about the presence of a group of two to three militants holed up in the area.
As the cordon was tightened the hiding militants fired at the security forces that triggered the encounter.
The joint operation by the police and the army is underway with firing going on between the two sides. Top officials of the police have reached the spot and are monitoring the operation.
