Orthopaedic consultant, detected with Covid, dies in Bengal

Kolkata, Apr 28 (IANS): With a senior orthopaedic consultant, detected with the coronavirus infection, passing away, the death count among doctors in West Bengal detected with the disease has risen to two.

The orthopaedic doctor, who was attached to a leading clinic of south Kolkata, was admitted in a private hospital around a week back. As his condition deteriorated, he was put on ventilator support and passed away on Monday night, hospital sources said.

However, it was yet not clear whether the death would be categorised as one due to Covid-19 or because of some other reasons.

Earlier, a senior official of the Health Department - also detected with the corona infection - died in the same hospital in the early hours on Sunday.

His wife is also admitted in the hospital with the coronavirus infection. However, a senior official said her condition was not serious.
