‘People entering Udupi district to be compulsorily quarantined’ - DC

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, May 2: Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha said that those entering Udupi district from other districts would be compulsorily kept in government quarantine and entering the district is permissible only upon receiving orders from the DC.

The commissioner said that a systematic procedure would be conducted for people entering the district. All the people entering the district would be undergoing a medical test at MGM college grounds. Arrangements were made in designated government hostels and private hotels for keeping people in quarantine. Those choosing private hotels to be quarantined would have to bear the expenses of rent by themselves, the commissioner said.

The DC has asked all the tahsildars to identify hostels and hotels that could be made available to meet the arranged plan for quarantine.

Gram panchayat are asked to prepare themselves to quarantine at least 25 persons.

The business hours of the permitted shops in district are extended till 1pm. Shops are allowed to operate from 7am to 1pm, but the operation of buses and opening of spa, and saloons is postponed for another week. Auto rickshaws can operate only with a single passenger.

Passes for inter district travel are issued only on medical reasons. Those entering the district illegally would be kept in government quarantine.

Beedingudde ground is designated as the exit point for the people travelling to other districts. People willing to return to their home state should register online and only after availing permission from their home state they would be allowed to travel back.

The DC has also ordered the tahsildars to make necessary arrangements to evacuate the migrant labourers by Sunday, May 3.

A humble request with Daijiworld.. From today, numerous NRI's are returning to India. Government has made it mandatory for all NRI's to stay in Institutional Quarantine facilities (hostel/ school etc). Its a good news, but please also make arrangement in some hotels in Mangalore so that these NRI's who can afford, may pay to stay for some better facilities. There will be ladies and kids in the list, so please request the government to arrange some hotels in all districts as quarantine facilities.

Cynthia, IMHO, CORONA is losing ground in India by the day; its in the penultimate phase, will slowly go away by end May or mid June in all probability irrespective of your lockdowns, mocdowns, quarantines, booze bandh, or whatever; this is perhaps the result of yours & other like minded people's incessant prayers!!

India's count as of yesterday was 38,000. Why would u think it is in penultimate phase?

So for how long are u going to keep this sort of prevention? Corona virus is not going to disappear in the next 2 weeks, or the next 2 months, or 6 months even. A vaccine is not going to be made available for atleast 1.5 years...A drastic blanket ban like this is not the most idealistic solution, Mr. DC.

Mind-blowing decision by Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha. This compulsory quarantine will prevent from COVID-19 from speeding to other places. So far Udupi is doing good with the minimum cases and acquired the Green Zone spot and also the lockdown has been lifted in most places.

Before celebrating & putting yourself in self deceit, just see how 1000s of trapped migrants are rushing in hordes huddled together from various districts to their native places throwing all protocols to the winds; thus making a mockery of the forced quarantine??? Think logically before jumping!!

Testing centre required urgently. By the time patient is confirmed to have covid they would already have spread the virus even if locked up simply by washing, cleaning and eating.

What about hotel staff. If any quarantine person without symptoms can spread virus to hotel staff. Best advise is please check all the incoming people and let them stay at their homes if they have separate quarantine facility at home.
