Bengaluru, May 4: The joy of liquor lovers is short lived as they need to shell out more to buy the liquor from May 5.

Government has ordered a hike on the price of liquor from May 5. Accordingly, the Excise department has decided to increase the price of liquor by 6%.

The actual order was passed during state budget to be implemented from April 1. However, the same could not be implemented because of the lockdown.

The liquor was sold at the old price on Monday, May 4. The increase is done on all the 18 announced price slabs of liquor. This means that the price of a 180 ml liquor bottle will shoot up by Rs three to Rs 30.

    The government is crazy, they should have persisted with the lockdown prohibition, and extend it for eradicating liquor addiction. It has ruined enough lives already save the poor from such self destructive habits! Look at Gujarat and follow it's economy model for earning revenues for the state, instead of wasteful filling of coffees of Malaya and Co.🙏

    Hello,
    First of all concentrate on basic needs.
    Without Liquor anyone can survive but without basic needs nobody can survive.
    Delhi government is decreased the cost of basic needs.

    Those who excess money they will go for Liquor & those who don't care about their family they will go for Liquor.

    What excess Money..even the non-rich people need liquor and are addicted to it. 70% is ridiculous.

    I in no way am encouraging drinking, but people who are already in it will do face issue with this steep hike.

    If people' s will power is strong enough, they should reject / boycott liquor or anything for that matter that's over priced or unfairly taxed! Demand Justice!
    Why drinkers shouldn't get justice? Are they not Tax payers?
    Are they not contributing to economy?

    Government needs to have sufficient revenues to carry out its services, and employ a large number of babus who push papers.

    So can't blame the Government in trying to collect more revenue from alcohol sales.

    But why do people need alcohol? Alcohol does nothing good.

    Govt putting the lives under risk in return for revenue. During the COVID-19 pandemic, alcohol consumption can exacerbate health vulnerability, risk taking behaviours, mental health issues and violence. WHO/Europe reminds people that drinking alcohol does not protect them from COVID-19, and encourages governments to enforce measures which limit alcohol consumption.

    We should really ask ourselves what risks we are taking in leaving people under lockdown in their homes with a substance that is harmful both in terms of their health and the effects of their behaviour on others, including violence..

    Immediate after sworn-in as chief minister Shri Siddarimayah announced will arrange cheap labour for poor people. Upto last it not succeded due to pressure from liquor lobby manufacturers. On that time where are you...went to syria via afghanistan.
