Mangalore : Memories and Thrills of a Lifetime at Reunion of St. Aloysius '77 classmates Pics by Dayananda KukkajeDaijiworld Media Network - Mangalore
Mangalore, Jan 5: Never - Yes, never in the history of more than 125 years of existence of St. Aloysius institutions has there been a reunion of 77 attendees. A record hard to break! The magic figures - 77 classmates of year '77 meeting after 33 years speaks volumes about the efforts put in by the organisers. The classmates of St. Aloysius High School 1977 batch met after 33 long years in their school uniform of course to add special effect to the occasion. The presence of former Headmasters of the High School Fr. Denis Rasquinha and Fr. L. Pinto and the Rector of the institution Fr. Joseph Rodrigues added a special touch to the occasion. The chief organiser Loyola Pinto on behalf of all the organisers/classmates welcomed them and the attendees with his inimitable style and it was followed by honouring the VIP priests. A sapling was then planted by the 2 headmasters on behalf of the classmates.
To relive the days spent in the classroom of yesteryears, the classmates then sat inside the classroom and the present headmaster Fr. Melwyn Pinto marked their attendance by calling out their names which in turn drew very interesting answers and comments. A two minute silence was then observed in memory of the classmates who had passed away. Fr. Melwyn spoke in brief about the developments which have taken place and answered all queries from the 1977 batch students with ease.
To experience once again travelling by a school bus they then boarded two school buses and proceeded to the farm house as guests of of their own generous classmate Nitin Shetty in Deralakatte which was not only beautifully set up in true party decor but also blended well with the greenery around. After relishing some tender coconuts and sweet toddy the party mood was on. With the customary welcome the classmates were then asked to introduce themselves and also recollect any funny and interesting events which took place during their school days. Wow! the soul-searching stuff which flowed from their heart will surely remain etched in memory for a lifetime. To enliven the atmosphere there was not only a DJ with his collection of music but also a live band named as the '77 Reunion Master Blasters' comprised of the classmates of the very same class of 1977 (which will also be a unique feat hard to break for years to come) who rocked the gathering.
A sumptuous spread of food added spice to the occasion. With the memories and thrills experienced by the classmates it was a day never to forget - the 3rd of January 2010 which also coincidentally happened to be the birthday of our host Nitin Shetty who had the privilege to be wished by 77 of his classmates - another feat which will last for decades. Three Doctor classmates then planted 3 saplings at the farm with a promise to come back again to watch not only the saplings grow but also prayed that the bond between the classmates of '77 grows further and reach great heights. With the three famous D's Dinner, Drinks and Dance in full swing the party raved till late evening and the classmates finally reluctantly bid goodbye to each other, while specifically asking for more such reunions to be organised and draw plans to repay their alma mater in whatever best way possible. To sum it up the '77 batch Reunion will go unparalleled in history, while the snapshots speak for themselves. Many exclaimed "Oh what an awesome reunion it was '

It must have been a joyous event to all of them. What a thrill they must have felt in their hearts. I experienced it when I came across my classmate after 30 years on this website. Wow!
It is wonderful to see some of our old schoolmates. I studied from 1972 to 1975 (8th to 10th STD) Fr Denis Rasquinha was very disciplined Head Master (during our time in 8th std) and Fr. L Pinto was the Head Master during 9th and 10th std. and I am very happy to see them again. Nice arrangements by the organizers, good to see such gatherings.
Nice to see most of familiar faces
Its sad to notice that only St. Aloysius and St. Agnes occassions are highlighted in Daiji. there are numerous institutions in Mangalore.. Please cover. No complaints its just a suggestion..
Mr.Vinod D'Souza where is your school uniform? You will be fined by the Head master !!
Simply superb, really missed a life time event. Hats off to Loy, Nithin and Pottha(Prashant).
What a wonderful re-union. I wish I could get half a dozen of the 1939 batch together at any event. However it is great that to see that alumni think of Our common Alma Mater and take a delight to return to the portals of St. Aloysius. Congrats to the organizers. May more young men think of these re-unions. Joe Gonsalves ANCIENT STUDENT
I will be glad if a get together of 1981 batch of degree college is organised. It will be nice to see old friends in new form.
Good to see all my classmates most of them familiar and a few cannot recollect after all these years. Brought back lot of fond memories looking at the photos of the school and former Headmasters. Belated birthday wishes to Nitin and congrats to the efforts of everybody involved in making this well organized Reunion a grand success.
Hey Brian / David - nice to see you and so many known faces. Nice pictures and i bet all of you had a great time.
Great pictures and a good write up of what was a true reunion. All the e-mails especially the video clips I received from the participants really shows that no stone was left untouched in organizing this event in a meticulous fashion. As a person belonging to Batch of 77 - St. Aloysius High School I have indeed missed a great event.
