BJP leaders urge Adityanath govt to ban liquor sale

Lucknow, May 8 (IANS): After BJP MPs, Satyadev Pachauri and Sakshi Maharaj, it is now a BJP MLA who has sought a ban on sale of liquor. Surendra Singh from Ballia has urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to review his decision to allow liquor sale in the state.

Lauding the Bihar government, Singh said: "It is not right to compromise with the lives of people for the sake of revenue collection. Uttar Pradesh should also announce prohibition like the Bihar government has done."

The Ballia MLA said that social distancing was an impossible task during liquor sale and liquor shops should not have opened during the lockdown when the corona crisis is far from over.

"The state government can think of other sources for revenue collection and liquor sale should not be one of them. Liquor sale will not only endanger the health of individuals but also the health of the society," he said.

Earlier, BJP MPs Satyadev Pachauri and Sakshi Maharaj had objected to the sale of liquor during the lockdown and had said that this would have an adverse impact on the efforts being made to contain the pandemic.

    @yogi Adithyanath,
Soma is a drink used in ancient India, in the (Vedic) culture.
It is written of in the Vedas, in which there are many hymns praising it.

It was probably a juice made from a hallucinogenic mountain plant or the haoma plant. In the Vedas, Soma is both the sacred drink and also a god (deva).
It is not known for sure what Soma actually was.

Soma is like the Greek drink, Ambrosia. It is also called Amrita in the Hindi language.
According to their beliefs it is what the gods drink, and what made them gods.

Indra and Agni are known for drinking a lot of Soma.
Mortals also drink it, giving then visions that are thought to be divine.
The Rig-Veda (8.48) states, "We have drunk the Soma; we have become immortal; we have gone to the light; we have found the gods." The Ninth Mandala of the Rig Veda is known as the Soma Mandala. It is mostly hymns to Soma.

Sura is a drink meant for common man.

When the gods and goddesses are drinking full at the brim, denial to the humans of the earth is not fair.
Probably this is the reason BJP and Congress governments are/were allowing to drink.
Government should arrange Pick-Ups to drop to their houses if they are drunk and fall down on the roads.

Prohibition has never become successful in India or anywhere else for that matter.
Alcohol will get smuggled into the state or people start distilling their own Booz.
Excise and police will start harassing people and minting money.
All said and done prohibition in India is a utterly foolish idea.

Hypocrisy at its peak. If its the same BJP, why one thing in UP and another thing in Karnataka? Anything and everything that works, right.
What politicians need is power and money.
Why cannot BJP at the centre say, this is what we are as a Party, and no exceptions allowed?
No one wants martyrdom, so they do whatever it takes as long as they can hang on to power, and keep looting the nation.
