Moodbidri, Jan 7: The second day of ‘Alva’s Virasat-2010’, on Thursday January 7, saw the ‘Jugalbandhi’ of saxophone and flute and an Odissi dance performance which left the audience marveling at the artistes’ talent.

Renowned saxophonist Kalaimamani Kadri Gopalnath and popular flutist Suramani Praveen Godkindi thrilled the audience with their combined music recital.

The accompaniments were by Anoor Anantha Sharma on ‘Mridangam’, Arun Kumar on drums, Rajendra Nakod on ‘Tabla’, U Umesh on keyboard, and B Rajendra on ‘Morsing’.

Classical Odissi dance by Sharmila Biswas and team was the second progamme on the Virasat stage.

Biswas, from Kolkata, is a disciple of renowned Odissi dance guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

Her team of nearly 25, along with musicians, performed various dances in the classical Odissi style.

This rare opportunity of watching the Odissi style of dance in Dakshina Kannada got a good response from the audience gathered at Shobavana at Mijar where the specially-decorated stage for Virasat is situated.

Mr. Mohan Alva, we are proud that you are doing so much to preserve our culture, our herbs & shrubs, our Vedic teaching of the solar system influencing our plants, our Ayurvedic medicine and our naturopathy curing methods like Yoga etc. I humbly request you to create a world class cultural centre at Majar with entry tickets, to highlight our culture to the outside world which will promote the tourism in this region like the one in Bangkok. There, they take the tourists to a rural centre with herbal gardens, theme parks, elephant rides, Thai marriage ceremony, local dance by artists, local music by a band group, locally made produce, locally made Ayurveda medicines etc. Whenever the foreigners visit this place, we have very limit places to show them that too they are poorly maintained and the surrounding environment is very dirty. It is high time we teach our people not to chew tobacco, not to spit in public places, not to keep the surrounding dirty, not to throw the waste on the streets, separate degradable & non-degradable wastes in a separate bag while disposing off etc. through skit, advertisements, programs by social organizations and Govt. Programmes.
