CISF officer dies of Covid-19 in Kolkata


Kolkata, May 8 (IANS): An assistant sub-inspector rank officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) died of Covid-19 at the state-run Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, reports said on Friday.

A resident of Kalna in East Burdwan distruct, the officer had tested positive for Covid-19 before breathing his last on Thursday. He was posted at the Indian Museum in Kolkata.

A senior CISF officer said that at least 50 CISF personnel of the same unit who reportedly came in contact with the deceased ASI had been quarantined.

He said the CCTV room, barrack and all duty rooms of the CISF unit have already been sanitised and disinfected. The Indian Museum complex, where the deceased was posted, was also sanitised after he tested positive.

The total number of security personnel testing positive for Covid-19 in the state has now gone up to 32, of which as many as 12 are from the Kolkata Police itself.
