Mangalore, Jan 8:
With several challenges before it, like the communal violence, naxal menace, terrorism and underworld activities, the western range of the state police had to  sweat it out  a lot to control these anti social activities last year and has stepped into the new year with the hope that the law and order situation within its jurisdiction will be under its complete control, said  Gopal B Hosur, inspector general of police, western range.

Speaking at a press meet held here on Friday January 8, he said that the western range has several problems to cope with, but since the last one year, the department has taken several remarkable steps to control all the anti social activities, which have resulted in a vast improvement in the situation. The listing of communal goondas, rowdies, educating the masses through seminars and informing the parents of the people involved in anti social activities etc., have borne fruits, he added.

“This year, we hope that our measures to maintain peace in the society will ensure that every citizen will be able to live without any fear. The department will take suitable steps with the support of government to make this happen, he asserted.

Red corner notices have been issued against underworld elements, Bannanje Raja,  Koraga Viswantha Shetty and Madoor Isubu, he revealed, adding that Bannanje Raja is presently in the custody of  the Dubai police, and that all out efforts are being made to bring him to the district at the earliest.

The district and the western range being very much sensitive to the religious places, the policemen are more concerned about these places and the temples, churches and mosques are being visited daily during the routine beat of the policemen, he said.

The terrorism activities also were witnessed within this range, and some of those involved were arrested for their involvement in such activities, said Gopal Hosur, adding that there is adequate proof to prove that a terrorist organization named  Indian Mujahideen was behind these activities.

The communal violence incidents are in control since the last several months, because of the efforts of the policemen. Some minor minor incidents were handled without giving scope for them to flare up passions, he added.

The western range consisting of four districts, has a population of 55 lac and 4,633 policemen under it, he said, giving brief statistics of his range and pointing out that there has been a shortage in the police strength as per the National Police Commission’s report.

Anti social elements with rowdy list and MOB (Modus Operandi Bureau) cards, communal goondas list etc., the department has been trying to control all the illegal activities. The coastal security police, control on narcotic activities, seminars and public meetings, police youth clubs and several other social activities being conducted through the department has brought very positive results, said Gopal Hosur.

Superintendent of police, Dr A S Subrahmanyeswara Rao and additional superintendent of police, Ramesh, were also present at the press meet.

Welldone IGP & Dr A S Subrahmanyeswara Rao with his full team. Good ideas can make difference than using lathi charge tech, people are use it ! Police can achive more success in the city by keeping away from any favor from rich influence people. In favor receive or give leads to compromise situation on any matter on any case. Govt need to give police more free hand, so that law and order will remain forever in control. Best wishes to Mangalore Police.

Best wises to IGP, SP on new year. And congratulations and thank you to State BJP government for posting such honest upright officers and not putting political pressure on them like other governments. Mangalore's name was harmed during pub attack . So it is nice to see Daiji profiling good work done by IGP (and State BJP govt which is responsible for posting this officer)

Yes indeed there was and is real challenge for maintaining law and order problem.Unfortunatly DK is communal voilence sensative district of Karnataka, and may be in India also.Beside DK Police including IG,SP&DC In Charge Minister MR K Palemar and Mr Clean Yogish Bhat also contributed for peaceful DK- by and large! If police dept, left alone in dealing with sesative issues(political influence)then everything is possible in maintaining peaceful DK.
