Sharjah: ‘Mangalore Konkans’ Team Wins ‘Bunts Throwball’ Trophy

Sharjah, Jan 9: The UAE-level throw ball tournament for women was held under the aegis of ‘Bunts Throw Ball’ from 9 am on Friday January 8, till the evening, at the Wanders Stadium here.
Leading throwball teams from the UAE, like Jashn Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, Bunts Dubai, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Kanarites and United Stars, took part in the tournament.
Bunts Dubai and Mangalore Konkans reached the finals and exhibited undying spirit and fought valiantly to lift the title, after levelling the games one each initially. In the thrilling contest that tested the nerves of the participating players and the audience alike, the Mangalore Konkans team came out victorious.
The tournament began with the welcome address, delivered by Satish Shetty, one of the conveners. Heat Shield, Ace Cranes and others sponsored the event. Several dignitaries including Sarvotttam Shetty, Kushal Shetty, Premnath Shetty, Gunasheel Shetty, Pravin Shetty, Ganesh Rai, Noel Almeida, Satish Venkataraman, were present.
Captain of the winning team, Precilla D’Souza, was adjudged the ‘best smasher’, while Precilla Pinto of the same team won the ‘best all-rounder’ title. Swarna Satish Shetty, captain of the runner up team, got the prize meant for the best blocker.
The women’s throw ball event being held periodically in the UAE, has become very popular among the Indians settled in the UAE because of the unique way they are conducted and also the excellent skills being displayed by the women throw ball players in the game. This is evident by the fact that every throw ball event is watched by a good number of spectators, who keep cheering the players.
