Bengaluru: Men performing stunts on scooter assaulted by cop, civilian, video goes viral

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, May 10: In a viral video that has surfaced from Bengaluru, two men can be seen getting assaulted by a civilian. Bengaluru policemen who were present on the scene can be seen as mute spectators to the assault, and at one point a cop also partakes in the assault and is seen kicking the men.

The two men from the Padarayanapura area have been accused of pulling off dangerous stunts on the scooter. Several pedestrians have claimed to have narrowly escaped injuries every time the men attempted to defy road safety. The incident happened on Saturday, May 9 at Kodigehalli station limits.

The first time they were intercepted by the police, they were let off with a warning. However, as soon as they were let go, they sped up and pulled a stunt in defiance, sources said.

The assault captured in the video was the second time the men were pulled over.

In the clip, a policeman is seen reprimanding the men saying, "Did I not warn you to drive carefully?"

In response to which, the men admit saying, "Yes, you had warned".

Several abusive words are then hurled by the policemen on the men as they continue to whimper.

The video also captures a man emerging with a cricket bat and with one swing attacking one of the two men on the leg. The brute force causes the man to collapse and squirm in pain. Another policeman then intervenes and scolds the vigilante. The police have identified both the policeman and the vigilante.

"We have secured the person who had assaulted the riders with a cricket bat. The policeman who had intervened has also been identified," senior Bengaluru police officer Dr Bhemshankar Guled said.

I have no sympathy for people being audacious..Heard the actual culprits escaped and these 2 guys were just crossing the street in their moped. If these guys were involved, then there is nothing wrong in the punishment given, but thorough investigation has to be done if it is a case of selective targetting or not

Any road violators to be booked as per the law. It is not acceptable for the public take the law into the hands. If public starts the policing then we don't need pay our taxes for the salaries.

Both the guys parent should be called to the police station and asked to signed the undertaking for not violating the law again.

If today's youth have the skills then government/Private owners should provide some grounds. These type of adventure sports is common in many countries. But strictly not on the roads endangering the life of others.

Very surprising that people are justifying the assault! The man had no business to hit them with a cricket bat when policeman had already intercepted the men and it was upto the policeman to take action. They could have been booked for not wearing masks or endangering the safety of others. There's something called law. Why is nobody assaulting the rich politicians who get sold? That's a bigger crime. The coward takes a bat to hit them!

"There is something called law".... Good joke! Thanks for stating the obvious. Now that really really informative.

Seems like you seem pretty ignorant about the way the Indian law system works. No one is asking for them to be encountered or whatever you are crying hoarse about. A slap on the wrists to such offenders is a much needed lesson. Looking at their attitudes, do you really expect their parents would put them in their rightful place after being summoned to the police station?

    We should not Lynch.
Rather, we should patiently wait for these gentlemen hit some innocent child or elderly standing near the road. Then we should blame the child and the elderly people for getting into the road.
Of course, we can also expect the cops to do their job and not allow civilians to get aggressive with these gentlemen. And the cops can fine them 200 rs, as that is the maximum the law will allow them to do. And these gentlemen can pay the fine and carry on with their stunts again.

if any one violating rules then he should be book under appropriate law and penalty should be imposed but recording videos and assaulting is in human act. Police officer should not have power to assault on the road instead of that heavy penalty can be imposed and put behind the bar.

In front of police how civilian can hit bike riders ? is not it is wrong?

No mask. No helmet. No sense of any social responsibility.
In my opinion the 2 were let off easily.
They deserve much harsher treatment. Only then will they and others too learn.
We couldn't care less about their lives but endangering lives of innocenct passers-by are unacceptable.

A lot of outcry against the actions of the police/public.

If this happened after the first warning, then it is definitely not acceptable. But if they continued with their actions immediately after being let off with a warning (which obviously didn't work well on their thick skin) then it is totally justified. I support such actions.

People who have a problem with this approach will stop complaining when they are at the receiving end of such irresponsible teenagers. This is where vigilante justice comes to the picture when the law makers are ineffective in curbing the menace. This is the only way we Indians will learn.

Behavior of all 3 parties are not accepted & punishment has to be as per rule of law. We cannot be selective here. Justice should prevail then only we can call it a civilized society.

Yes yes, the entire world can see what good has come out of the so called justice system or the rule of the law which the likes of you keep harping about. Remember Nirbhaya? Or would you need more examples?

Selective moral outrage is the bane of civilization and will be the death of civilization.
