Kathmandu, Sep 16: Two earthquakes struck northwestern Nepal within a span of a few hours on Wednesday, authorities said. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
According to the National Seismological Research Centre, the first earthquake, measuring 4.5 magnitude, occurred at 1:51 am local time, with its epicentre around Kalai in Mugu district.
A second quake of magnitude 4.2 struck the same area at 4:28 am, the centre said.
The tremors were also felt in neighbouring Dolpa and Jumla districts. However, there were no immediate reports of damage caused by the earthquakes.
Nepal lies in a seismically active zone and frequently experiences earthquakes. Authorities are monitoring the affected areas for possible aftershocks and any structural damage.
