CLW makes 1st locomotive within 3 days of reopening


New Delhi, May 15 (IANS): The Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), which resumed the work at its production unit on Monday with limited staff has dispatched its first locomotive for the financial year 2020-21 within three days of resumption of work, officials said on Friday.

A senior Railway Ministry official here said, "CLW turned out the First loco of financial year 2020-21 at the workshop, which re-opened with limited staff on May 11, after a gap of 49 days due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdown."

The official said that with the dedication of staff and officers, it became possible to dispatch first first loco of the year within 3 days of resumption of work.

He said, CLW has produced 431 locomotives in the last financial year, surpassing its own world record of manufacturing 402 locomotives in 2018-19.

The railways has suspended the production at all of its production units since March 25 amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic crisis. The national transporter also suspended the passenger, mail and express train services until further orders.

Last month, the Kapurthala Coach Factory also resumed work after April 20 and prepared two rail coaches in the span of two days.
