Bengaluru: Schools conducting online classes for kindergarten to face action, warns minister

Bengaluru, May 17: Education minister Suresh Kumar has instructed the officials of public education department to take strict action against the private educatioanl institutions, who are conducting online classes for lower kindergarten (LKG) and upper kindergarten (UKG) students.

The education department has given permission to private educational institutions to conduct online classes for students. However, it has also instructed them not to collect any fee for the same. The department has received complaints from parents of schools conducting online classes even for LKG and UKG students. The primary education department is mulling action against such institutions.

Minister Suresh Kumar said, "It is not right to conduct online classes for students of LKG and UKG. It is really amusing to even think of holding online classes for such young students. This is cruelty and harassment to such young students. Is it possible for all the parents to buy computers for this purpose? Students of LKG and UKG learn through games and not online classes. I have instructed the officials of the education department to put an end to such practice.

"Schools will not be restarted in a hurry. There is no need for the parents and guardians of students to panic," said Suresh Kumar.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwathnarayana said that the decision to conduct examinations for degree and post-graduate classes will be taken in the first week of June.

    Kindergarten kids fee should be waived off, no point of asking for it. We also started getting messages to pay fee although they decided not to start kindergarten online as per guidelines.
    They take huge amount while taking admission, can't they pay their staff with that.
    Govt should take action against it.
    Ppl in office s are getting pay cut, ain't they ajdusting with the situation.
    Many ppl have single earning in their family, how will they manage?
    If schools are not running currently their is no point of asking.

    We have paid full school fees in February itself. Now as there is no online classes. Will I get the school fees get back from school management? My kid in in Kindergarten.

    Online classes for Kids using laptop / phone is hectic. Kids attracts towards watching rhymes which they use it. They dont cooperate for this approach.. Also my school having s hdjle at 12.30 PM to 2 which is a lunch time.. Its like a torcher for kids as well as for parents specially if both are working.

    Most of the parents reserved seats by paying fees in the month of January for 2020-2021. Accordingly i too have done for my child for pre nursery. Now I feel like withdrawing but most of the schools will not refund paid fees. How can i refund the paid ?

    Hello, Despite Government instructions Eurokids is asking us to pay the Fee for the academic year for conducting online classes for UKG. On top of it all they have given parents only one day notice - on 6th June to pay the fees so the classes can start from 8th June. This is pathetic. Government should send send notification to all schools to abide by the rules. How the UKG students are going to concentrate on online classes plus kids will start getting addicted to laptops, phones etc.

    Instead my suggestion for kindergarten for this year would be to reduce the fee to very minimal this year. May be 10% of current fee (Parents who pay 1 lakh per year will only need to pay 10k) No online classes are required. Periodically have meetings with parents. Pass parents all worksheets, instructions etc so parents can teach the kids at home. Have meetings with parents monthly or once in 2 months to submit the worksheets and to pass further instructions. Grade kids based on the worksheets submitted. This will be a win win situation till we get out of this situation. Also parents will also be motivated to do this as they may be wfh so it gives them some more time to engage with kids.

    Sir despite this notification online classes for jr kg kids are being conducted by schools and they are forcing us to pay full fees to the students. We have already raise our concern to the school management but still they are not replying anything on mail and calling telephonically for full fee payment and asking us to meet principal in person but not giving anything in written.

    Hi,
    I too agree, There is no need for school to do online classes for kindergarten students, they are just increasing screen time.Do we have to pay fee or not. I have already paid 50%of fees.. we are in a confusing state. Please give us guidelines what to do and not.

    I'm not really satisfied with this concept of online classes.literally feel like kids not only might but definitely will get addicted to mobiles......so I feel like we need not to encourage this......

    Per my understanding this lower kindergarten concept is to practice socializing.which will help in coming stage of their life. Show them an video to learn is not a right practice. Now I have already paid 70% of fee too..

    Schools have already started asking for payment of online classes for Kindergarten. Dont know what to do. Please create a rule and send the circular to all schools against conducting LKG UKG online classes.

    Sir from years we are trying to keep students away from virtual screens but today the school are insisting to give education through that screens itself from nursery itself it implies that they are slowly giving practice for the addiction of virtual screens from that level itself. The play way method will enhance their creativity n not these virtual screens we parents are totally against these types online practices from that level itself and its disgusting to say that they are providing a good practice to enhance their skills. So kindly look back.

    Sir evy 1 in our country is not tat rich to affort computer n encourage online class...students in anganwadi n government school most children's n parents have financial crisis.. pls do take some other favorable steps for the needy...n many middle class ppl r suffering so much...online is a bit not affordable to all

    The basic purpose of kindergarten education; apart from development of cognitive abilities and moral values, is to develop social skills and build their ability to adjust to new surroundings (home away from home) which can't be achieved through online classes. As regards development of cognitive abilities and instilling moral values any elderly in the family can take care as they have lot of spare time now.

    There's no need to conduct online classes for kindergarten. Parents themselves can keep them busy at home with audio rhymes, colouring, teaching the Alphabets , doing small etiquette chores etc . Dont just leave your kids to themselves, monitor them & see that they are constructively engaged in some creativity.

    Please dont practice them to sit in front of computer or mobile. Bad for eyes. In some homes seen mother giving to child while she cries..to keep shut and able to do other works.

    once study comes through you tube, kids slowly switch the you tube to games and spider man videos.
    and also , its very dangerous to keep busy kids with smart phones , once normal school starts , kids will get addict to smart phones .
