Dalit leaders in Congress say Mayawati is BJP spokesperson

Lucknow, May 25 (IANS): In, perhaps, its most scathing attack on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Congress has termed Mayawati as a 'BJP spokesperson'.

And making this allegation is none other than Congress General Secretary P.L. Punia -- a one-time confidant of Mayawati.

"The language that 'Twitter Behenji' is using these days, clearly indicates that she makes the press note for the BJP and sends it. I think she is angry over the proactive efforts of the Congress and its General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to help the needy and poor migrants," he said.

"Behenji (as Mayawati is popularly known) has become an undeclared spokesperson of the BJP and her inclination towards the BJP remains despite rising incidents of atrocities against Dalits," he further said.

Mayawati had recently described Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's meeting with migrant workers a 'drama'.

The Congress Scheduled Caste Cell chairman Brijlal Khabri has also accused the BSP of having a 'tacit understanding' with the BJP.

"It seems that there is a tacit understanding between the BSP and the BJP, as both have termed Rahul Gandhi's meeting with poor labourers as drama. In the past few days, Mayawati has emerged as a BJP spokesperson," he stated.

It is abundantly clear that the Congress is using its Dalit leaders to attack Mayawati and put her in an uncomfortable situation on the issue of Dalits and their sufferings.

Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati hastened to assert that, "We want to make it clear that BSP will never enter into any kind of alliance with BJP in future elections."

She said BJP was following in the footsteps of Congress in forming policies not suited for the poor, especially migrants, who have been forced to leave their home state in search of jobs.

Mayawati said the BJP governments at the Centre and state should have provided enough jobs to the poor to check their migration.

According to UP government's estimate, 23 lakh migrants have already returned to the state during the lockdown.
