Gandhinagar, June 5 (IANS): Gujarat registered a record 510 new coronavirus cases in a day on Friday, taking its total tally past 19K to 19,119. Corona claimed 35 more lives, taking Gujarat's death toll to 1,190.
A total of 344 patients were discharged on Friday in Gujarat which now has 4,918 active cases.
On Friday, after health authorities carried out 5,990 RT-PCR tests, 510 new cases were detected across the state.
Although positive cases in Ahmedabad are gradually coming down from around 80 per cent to around 60 per cent nowadays, more and more positive cases are showing up in Gandhinagar and less commutable areas like Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli.
Of the 510 cases, 324 were detected in Ahmedabad (63.52%), followed by Surat 67, Vadodara 45, Gandhinagar 21, Mahesana 9, Patan and Jamnagar 6 each, Valsad 5, Bhavnagar and Amreli 4 each, Kheda, Bharuch, and Surendranagar 3 each, Dang 2, and Banaskantha, Rajkot, Aravali, Sabarkantha, Chhota Udepur, Junagadh, Navsari and Devbhumi Dwarka one case each.
Of the 35 deaths, Ahmedabad accounted for highest 30 casualties. Two patients from Surat and one patient each from Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Anand succumbed to the virus.
Till date, out of the total deaths, 968 people have died in Ahmedabad, followed by 76 in Surat, 44 in Vadodara, 15 in Gandhinagar, 11 in Anand, 10 each in Panchmahals and Bhavnagar, 7 each in Aravalli and Patan, and 6 in Mahesana.
On Friday, with 344 more patients discharged, the total cured patients reached 13,011.
Of the total 19,119 corona cases, Ahmedabad led with maximum 13,678 cases, followed by Surat 1,942, Vadodara 1,224, Gandhinagar 381, Bhavnagar 289, Mahesana 147, Banaskantha 132, Rajkot 120, Aravalli and Sabarkantha 112 each, Anand 106, Panchmahals 97, Patan 92, Kutch and Kheda 83 each, Jamnagar 61, Botad 60, and Bharuch 51 cases.
Health authorities have so far carried out 2,39,911 tests in the state, of which 2,20,792 tested negative.
Of the 4,918 active cases, 4,855 patients are stable whereas 63 are critical and still on ventilators.
As many as 2,21,149 people are quarantined in Gujarat, of which 2,13,717 are home quarantined and 7,432 in government facilities.
