Udupi: Flying squads formed to curb quarantine violation, offenders to be booked

Udupi, Jun 7: Scores of people have been arriving in the city since the introduction of special trains and relaxation of the lockdown, and The government has given instructions to keep people who arrive from other states, countries and districts in quarantine. However, some of them have been violating the quarantine rules and are roaming outside freely. To bring the situation under control, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh has formed flying squads to apprehend such people and register an FIR against them.

The officials in the flying squads will function on the model of flying squads during elections in terms of visiting the spot and taking necessary legal action. The officials will inspect the homes of the people from other states who are under home quarantine regularly. In addition, they will also file FIR against those who are violating the rules and are roaming outside freely and place them in quarantine again. They will also visit the institutional quarantine facilities in their jurisdiction.

Separate squads have been formed for city and rural areas. Officials and assistants have been nominated for limits of Udupi city municipality, Udupi taluk panchayat, Kaup taluk, Brahmavar taluk, Karkala taluk, Hebri taluk, Byndoor hobli, Kundapur hobli and Vandse hobli. They have been given instructions to not allow people under quarantime to violate the rules for any reason.

Flying squad officials will also monitor the work of PDO and village accountants of specified areas, who are supposed to monitor the movements of home-quarantined persons through mobile watch app and also visit their houses daily and also upload their photos online through mobile phones.

    It's unfortunate that in India whatever Central, state or district administration take action to curb the epidemic, there are also people sitting in every coroner of Govt. dept. to make it a business and money making. Such nuisance people should be booked in a court of law.

    I think DC is over doing thinks , he and people of Udupi district have to understand and come to terms that this virus is going to infect many of us , and only by spreading positive news with real care for the people administration should get it in control , old school mentality of strict action , rowdyism from police will not really work .
