Mangalore: DYFI Leader Dies in Accident

Mangalore, Feb 7: Ramesh Kumar (26), city secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, who was knocked down by a bus at Ernal in Udupi district late on Friday, died in a hospital here early on Saturday.

Mr. Kumar was responsible for unearthing several scams in welfare schemes in the district. He is credited with discovering the March 2009 scam of widows having been defrauded of Rs. 10,000 due to them under the National Family Benefit Scheme.

Mr. Kumar is survived by his mother, a beedi worker, and an 18-year-old sister. His last rites were performed in his native village of Adhyapadi near Bajpe.
