Shiv Sena Attacks Cinemas Due to Screen 'My Name Is Khan'

Mumbai, Feb 9 (IANS) : Shiv Sena activists Tuesday attacked several places that will screen Shah Rukh Khan's "My Name Is Khan", barely an hour after Mumbai Police assured full security at the 63 cinemas and multiplexes that will showcase the movie.

Sena mobs attacked and damaged the booking windows of the Mehul Theatre in Mulund and staged noisy protests outside Shreyas Theatre in Ghatkopar, both in the suburbs, officials said.

Groups of Sena activists were also seen protesting and shouting slogans in Kanjurmarg, Bandra, Khar and other parts of the city even as police promised tough measures to prevent any untoward incident during the release of the film directed by Karan Johan and also starring Kajol.

While 12 Sena activists were nabbed from Mulund, 24 were detained in Ghatkopar and Kanjurmarg in connection with the protests.

Earlier in the afternoon, director Karan Johar had called on Police Commissioner D. Shivanandhan and returned satisfied by the police security promised for the movie.

Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Himanshu Roy said anybody attempting to disrupt the film in any manner would be dealt with "very firmly".

"We shall also frisk and search suspicious persons coming to view the movie to prevent any untoward incidents inside the cinema auditorium," Roy told a packed news conference.

The Sena violence came a few days after the party had unofficially dissociated itself from banning the movie release in the city.

However, on Tuesday, senior party leader and former Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi reiterated in Nagpur that Shah Rukh must apologise for his remarks advocating the cause of Pakistani cricketers participating in the Indian Premier League.

His much awaited film is slated for a global release this Friday, including 63 cinemas and multiplexes in Mumbai and another 250 across the state.

In my opinion India has become a lawless country with no right to work nor right of property. Bandhs were fine when Indians were slaves of UK. Now India is a free democratic republic but our country still uses Bandhs to stop other Indians earning a living, committing violent property crimes and going Scott free due to an incompetent and corrupt police. Poor Indians are denied a day's wage when Bandhs are enforced by hoodlums and the army and police do nothing. This is recipe for Chaos and continued poverty in India, while other Asian countries such as Korea, China etc are passing India by.

Indians have become too parochial. Maharashtrians are easily conned in to violence by Shiv Sena and Tamils vote only for their Dravidian parties and so forth. There can be no development when there are no property rights, violent thugs rule the streets and incompetent police do nothing, and a non functioning Judiciary which is only worried about its reputation (and quick to slap punishment to anyone who criticizes it). I fear for India. There are no politicians willing to lead Indians to prosperity. Reading the Indian news papers is a sad thing. Indians are easily sucked in to fighting each other by petty politicians for their own benefit.

This kind of fighting within only harmful for the united India where millions of people are under the poverty line. Be united and do something for the poor people. If man like Shar Rukh Khan and Thakare influential people can do many more things for the poor people of India rather than making issues for nothing.

Shah Rukh Khan may be thinking that he is a Hero and can do anything but in reality he is a Zero. Let him go to Pakistan or Afghanistan and make a film 'MY NAME IS BIN LADEN' He should not be allowed even in IPL.

I am not a supporter of sena but I would like to say that Shahrukh should not have made such statements. He should have made sensible comments like the other IPL owners regarding the Pakistani players. Shahrukh praised pakistani players 'cos he wants his film to do well in Pakistan.

Its a shame that we Indians show our anger on our own homes. They should understand that these theatres serve as daily bread to so many people and our great Shivaji's breed destroying the bread winners for their brothers and sisters, their parents, dear and near ones. Dear Maharashtrian Brothers and sisters, please be Indian first, because if India is there, then only Maharashtra or Mumbai exists.

Teach your children to follow Gandhi and not Thakare. Please think big and achieve big. Thakares can only break the country but cannot unite, cannot give you more than a wada pau, because thats the distance they can think and work for only for petty gains. Save your young children and save India. Jai Hind

Shiv Sena is a communal party just like Rama Sena, Bajrang Dal, and VHP. They have never done any thing positive for the country except for dividing the society on religion, beating up innocent citizens, damaging commercial establishment and vandalizing places of worship. They survive only on extorting money from movie stars, businessmen and commercial establishments. I am sure Mr. Sharad Pawar paid the Shiv Sena money to run the IPL in Mumbai.

Mr. Sharuk Khan refused to pay hence he is facing the consequences. All these communal outfits play the Hindu card and exploit the sentiments of the majority. I sincerely appeal to our citizens to search their conscience, read thru their modus operandi and reflect on the importance of such parties. I guess if we stop giving patronage to such rogues we will be able to live in peace and harmony. The Central Government should immediately intervene and ban such parties.

Bal Thackeray's Sena protests against Shah Rukh Khan. Khan then meets Thackeray and Uddhav Tahckeray says the Sena is backing off from protesting against Khan's movie. Thereafter Khan, with no provocation, shoots his mouth again provoking the Sena again. Both Khan and the Sena need to be banished to a remote island, for wasting the nations time with these meaningless issues.

This is a ploy by Bal Thakeray & SRK to give more publicity to his movie-thereby creating more interest in gullible people-wanting to see the movie. They Both will walk to their Banks Laughing to share the gains 50:50.

The rule of law must prevail and any anarchy must be supppressed. SRK must limit himself in making irresposible statements. At the same time these lawless goons too must be eardicated. Selfish politics must be stopped. Whatever the end results may be SS must be shown the door and message shold go to any such fanatic organisations that we are a country with laws and discipline and goondagiri will not be allowed. Ban such trouble making organisations who inflict damages to the public and society. Everyone should talk about the national unity and integrety. If we allow these organisations to at at their free will, epole will lose the confidence and faith in the democracy and in our country's institutions. All such lawless and self styled organisations who promote hate, destroy peace and call themselves as patriots, nationalists and protectors of culture and national pride are causing more harm to the nation. These blackmailing tactis must be stopped. All such activists and their mentors must be sent to jail. Only rule of law should be allowed. Jai Hind. Vande Mataram.
