Mangalore, Feb 14: Married couples' valentine Day was organized by Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres in regard with the church centenary celebrations 2010-2011.

According to the number registered around 140 couples had actively participated in the gathering. They were welcomed with Red roses, a symbol of love, Cakes and juice.

YOU BY MY SIDE, was the inaugural song which ignited the spark for the evening.

The MC for the evening, Celestine D’souza delivered the welcome address. She said, 'Prayer is the essence of married life. A family which prays together, stays together. When we pray God listens more than we ask, gives more than we need and we think! Today is a time for rejuvenating our love for each other. She gave a nice message to all around, she said yesterday is waste paper, today is a newspaper, tomorrow is question paper and our life is answer paper. Its how we live our life with each other that matters'

Later, after the welcome address by Celestine, Fr Thomas Roshan said a small prayer  on the occasion accompanied with hymns, then  the married couples renewed their vows again. He then went around and sprinkled Holy water around those gathered and then sang the  hymn Showers of Blessing was sung.

To make the evening more merrier, a marvelous choir group sang sukanth Dukanth- a famous Konkani number.  The Chief guest for the day Mr & Mrs Joe and Irene Gonsalves, the old and yet not so old couple were escorted to the stage.

They were selected as the chief guest, keeping in mind , the couples are probably the eldest and oldest in Milagres Parish. Lily Pereira introduced the couple to the gathering. Firstly she thanked everyone for making the day a big success. She said, very few are as lucky as Joe and Irene to ascend this frontier. The chief guest couple celebrated their 60th anniversary on 6th Jan, 2010.

The evening progressed as Joe and Irene cut the cake which was designed in heart shape fashion with a message written saying “TO MY SOUL MATE.” Further all the gathered couples were led to the Grand March- which is a symbolic part of Christian wedding, especially mangaloreans, this march gave way to the dance floor.

Joe spoke on the occasion sayin love is patient, kind, does not envy, boast, not proud or rude. Keeps no record of wrongs but rejoices with a truth. It protects, trusts, hopes, preserves. These were versus taken from the Holy Bilble Corinthians 13 : 4-7. Love is etched in the heart of every married couple. It takes dedication & skill to maintain good marriage. We are indeed honoured and humbled to stand before you. As Homer, the greek philosopher said, there is nothing more admirable than two people keeping house, confronting challenges and entertaining friends. We braved many storms and crisis.

Three couples among the audience shared their married experience . Dr Derrick and Patsy told how they passed through pain and circumstances of hurt , and how they overcame those hindrances. He mentioned that 4cs- commitment, cooperation, care communication is a must and 3Ls- Love, Loyalty and Lies !

Games and a small skit was organized for little purpose of entertainment.then the unity lamp was lighted by Shamy and Savita, ST Peter’s Ward- who were the youngest couple at the gathering.

The evening conclude with the vote of thanks by Marcel monteiro- Chairperson for the committee, followed by dinner.

Michael, Mangalore/Dubai dear friend ..Someshwara church was attacked by your own people. Same news was published in daiji a year ago. Please note this also. I don’t know as an educated people why you all comment like this. As per my knowledge Sri rama sene is separate party and it is not tied with BJP, RSS or BD. It was individual party just like jayakarnataka samithi or Karnataka rakshana vedike. Actually government has failed to control this so blame on govt. not religion.

Mr. Vijay and other friends who are trying to hold onto the solid Indian culture, may I explain
something personal. I grew up in a village in Kerala, and very rarely I saw my cousin sisters. I grew up as an extrovert with everybody, but a very shy person when I came across with girls. Hardly I looked at girls, and now I feel like a fool, lost the youner days of life, not enjoying the beauty of the girls. Girls and boys find the greatest beauty in the opposite sex. God is not against that enjoyment of life, but with  certain borderline. Hardly I smiled at girls, other than my own relatives. I was greatly shocked and sweated for a few days when I came to study in the U.S. The first day when I was surrounded with girls while passing through one door to the big dining hall,

I felt like I was going to pass out. It took almost three months to get out of the panic attack of
girls rubbing on my body while passing through the door. For the mental and social development of any person, he or she has to interact with the other sex. Perhaps the wrong religious influence has created
an artifical barricade in between the boys and girls. Now, in the same college where I have studied,
boys and girls are acting like big city college students of India. I have lived as a bachelor at the prime of my life, went to India and got married. Had I got some wholesome interaction with girls, I could have avoided a lot of  mental pain here.

Here what I see is all couples only. Whereas valentine need not be couples only. My son's valentine is my eldest spinster sister. He all the way from the US calls to greet her in Mumbai.

Beautiful pictures: and it is an inspiration to see the couples enjoying a great time in renewing their sweet spirit of marriage and love. Let it be western or northern, but anything good from the west must
be adopted for our wholesome  joy and fun. God bless all those lovely couples.

Mr. Vijay who are the people that attacked our places of worship.
It is the right wing Hindu groups...
All religions have their negative & positive sides.... agreed... but to see right wing Hindu groups take law into thier hands with the whole goverment machinery geared to hammer the daylights of very peaceful...christian Indian citizens..who were protesting peacefully....what do you say to that..... i hope you have the wisdom of uttering positive sounds rather than taking up for the Goondas that destroyed our places of worship... they were not hindus they were goondas with political clout.

Mr. Vijay, Kuwait can you please tell me who give the right to take law in to their hand ? If they are trying to teach people how to live, what to eat and what not, what to wear, to whom to talk, why do we need government ? why do we need Police ? First of all these sena members are the young boys who have no education, no job (they dont want to work if they have job)and simply roam around the city and always are used by useless organizations for their selfish motives. Do you think they really love their religion ? Do you think what their religion teaches them ? Whereever they create problems, they are under the influence of cheap quality alcohol. Mr. Vijay, Sanathana Dharma is a very good religion. However, these self proclaimed protectors of religion & culture are actually damaging it.

Congratulations Milagres, Finally one organisation has got steel in their spine,to stand up to all the GOONDAISM at Mangalore . All the SENAS must have been caught NAPPING or pretended to do so. Its the PEOPLE who make the place & not the PLACE that makes the PEOPLE. Remember its the TRUTH that always PREVAILS. GOD BLESS YOU ALL & LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST WITHOUT FEAR.

Congratulations to the organizers of Valentine day in a novel way. Let this event set a trend to many a parishes. Call prominent Hindu and Muslim couples as the chief guest at the occasion. Book the parish hall in advance. So far the life of the church and faithful was controlled by the clergy. We have not made our good customs public. In the 21st C the laity has to take lead in every sphere and keep clergy like Hindu pundit limited to performing Puja or Mass. This kind of thinking has to come in haste for the survival of the Catholic community.
