Puttur: Perverted Minds Desecrate Gandhiji’s Statue

Puttur, Feb 15: In an incident that can make well-meaning people to hang their heads in shame, some miscreants were found to have placed a garland of footwear around the neck of the statue of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. This incident happened at the KSRTC bus stand here on Monday February 15 morning.
After finding a garland of footwear on the said statue, people of the area gathered there and condemned the incident. The policemen, who got the information, arrived on the spot and took charge of the situation. Later, the tahasildar of Puttur taluk, Dase Gowda, came to the spot and removed the garland. It was seen that two chappals were tied with the help of a thread and then hung around the neck of the statue.
It is believed that the miscreants placed the footwear garland on the statue late night on Sunday.
The tahsildar informed the media that strict action would be taken against those responsible for this heinous act. He said that the policemen will conduct an in-depth investigation into the episode.
The statue had been erected in memory of the visit of Mahatma Gandhiji to Puttur in the year 1934 during the freedom struggle.
