Bunts Bahrain Committee for 2010 Inducted

Bahrain, Feb 21: Friday February 19 was a great day for Bunt Families here with the presence of two great personalities of the community, professor Dr Shantharam Shetty, renowned orthopaedic surgeon from Mangalore and Sudhir Kumar Shetty, chief operating officer, Global Operation of U.A.E. Exchange, Abu Dhabi for Bunts Bahrain Committee induction ceremony at the Indian Club here.
The dignitaries were welcomed with traditional Poornakumbha Swagath. Sudhir Sheety, assistant entertainment secretary welcomed the gathering followed by traditional prayer song and classical dance as mark of invocation. Vasanthi S Shetty, wife of Shantharam Shetty too was present. Amaranth Rai and Bharath Shetty accompanied the dignitaries along with Ajay Kumar, first secretary and in-charge of Indian Embassy to the dais.
New committee was introduced by senior member Jayram Shetty and Dr Shantharam Shetty pinned the badges to each committee members. Nithin Shetty, general secretary welcomed the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, president Amaranth Rai said that he was happy to see the dignitaries on 10th year induction ceremony. He also urged the members to contribute whatever they can to help the needy families of South Kanara. Bunts Bahrain plans to have charity drive this year and also good programmes, competitions and social gathering, he added.
Later, Rai felicitated Dr Shantharam Shetty and Sudhir Shetty.
Dr Shetty in his speech, appreciated the unity of Bunts Bahrain and requested them to help the needy people of Dakshina Kannada. He said that about 20 per cent of Bunts are still uneducated and around 25 per cent of bunts are with no homes or shelters. Dowry is the main cause for the poverty, he said and stressed that wealth without work is sin and thus urged the community to do good for brethren.
Sudhir Shetty urged the Bunt families to teach Tulu to their children. The children of Bunts born and brought up in western countries, hesitate to come to their motherland because they cannot converse in Tulu.
The association also felicitated Dr Shrikanth Rai of Mangalore, Ravi Shetty, president, Tulu Koota Qatar and Prakesh Ajila, former president of Tulu Koota, Qatar.
As part of cultural programme, the Aliyakattu – Gadya performed by Sunil Shetty and Ashika Shetty as well as Tulu play showcasing the traditional Bantara Jeevana Shaili was appreciated by the audience. A small skit, Kaun Banega Crorepati in Tulu too was staged.
After the raffle draw, sumptuous dinner was served by the Central Café. The programme was anchored by Doomanna Rai and Sudhir Shetty.
