Mumbai, Feb 21: “Gratitude is one of the distinguishing features of Indian Culture”, said Dr B M Hegde, undivided DK district president, Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti and former VC, Manipal University.
He was speaking at a felicitation function organized by the people of Dakshina kannada under the leadership of Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti founder-president Jayakrishna A Shetty at Hotel Peninsula Grand, Saki Naka here, recently.
Hegde was honoured as he was chosen for the Padma Bhushan award. Senior leader of Bunts community, and well known hotelier M D Shetty, Maharashtra government MLA Krishna S Hegde and medical administrator Sadanand V Shetty felicitated Hegde on behalf of all the Tulu- Kannadigas.
Hegde said that he has not registered his membership in Bunts community yet because he has no belief in caste and creed. “I only believe in humanity and love for the human community. This is the reason I have been honoured today”, he added.
Sadananda Shetty said that Dr Hedge with his ambitious nature is a true leader.
Jayakrishna Shetty in his presidential address lauded the achievements of Hegde and said that he is a man with enormous amount of knowledge and the samiti is lucky to have him as the president.
Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti vice-president Dharpal U Devadiga welcomed the gathering. JAVAAB chief secretary C V Shetty and journalist Daya Saagar Chowuta compered the programme. Chief secretary of the samiti Harish Kumar M Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
Samiti vice-presidents Sanjeev Kanchan, Balakrishna P Bhandary, Jagannath M Ganiga and Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry working president Henry Lobo among others were present.
Later state home minister Dr V S Acharya said that he is happy that the central government has responded positively to the proposal set forth by the state government of choosing Hegde for the award.
