COVID-19: Rajasthan crosses 20,000 with highest spike of 632 cases


Jaipur, Jul 5 (IANS): Rajasthan on Sunday recorded its highest spike in COVID-19 cases as 632 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 20,164, health officials confirmed.

Nine deaths were also reported, out of which 6 were in Jodhpur while one death each was reported each in Bikaner, Kota and Udaipur. The cumulative death toll remains 456 in state, they added.

Pratapgarh in Rajasthan had the highest number of new cases on Sunday at 65, Jodhpur and Bikaner had second highest number at 57 each, Jaipur and Alwar had 47 each, Pali had 46, Ajmer had 31, Baran had 4, Barmer had 7, Bharatpur had 34, Bhilwara 3, Churuhad 5, Dausa 7, Dholpur 28, Dungarpur 1, Hanumangarh 2, Jalore 41, Jhalawar 3, Jhunjhunu 15, Karauli 2, Kota 8, Nagaur 30, Rajsamand 37, Sikar 12, Sirohi 27, Tonk 3 and Udaipur 10.

The cumulative positive cases in the state till Sunday are 20,164 while the active cases are 3,780. 9,09,132 samples have been tested in the state out of which 8,84,457 have tested negative as 4,511 samples are under process.

While health officials confirmed that the influx of migrants to the state have increased the numbers, State Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma said that testing has been increased and hence more number of COVID-19 cases are being reported, however, as they are detected on time and medically cured, the state's recovery rate has touched 80 per cent.

The health department has developed the capacity of conducting more than 41,000 tests per day and soon more than 50,000 tests per day will be conducted in the state.

Soon the state will achieve the capacity to conduct more than 50,000 tests per day, he said, adding "The state has made all arrangements at all the places to fight corona."

Sharma said that because of the better arrangements of the government, the recovery ratio of corona positive has reached 80 per cent. He said that increasing the testing facility has benefitted recovery. The entire attention of the government is on sampling so that the virus does not spread, he said.

Over 5,470 migrants coming from different states have tested positive, confirmed officials.
