Kuwait Kannada Koota Celebrates Daasotsava

Kuwait, Mar 5: Kuwait Kannada Koota celebrated on 26 February, Daasotsava, its first annual program of the calendar year in memory of the doyens of Carnatic music and bhajans. The program commenced with an introductory address by Subhadra Surana and invocation by Madhavi Kulkarni & Vasantha Ashok. It was then followed by lighting of the lamp by Kavana & Harsha Rao.











The day’s cultural program began with a fancy dress competition with more than 50 children as participants – the youngest being eight months old! Anushka Kairangala, Ajay Karkal & Lakshmi Shetty were the winners in three categories of fancy dress competition. The whole segment was ably compered by Vichita Chinmaya & Ashik D’Souza, students of Class XI & Class IX respectively. In the Harikathe competition, Ekanath Vernekar was the clear winner and Suresh Rao Neramballi came in second. Hombali introduced outstanding Class X & Class XII students to who mementoes were presented. Guru Rangashree gave a brief talk on the history of music in India through the ages. The young kids of the Koota recited certain stanzas of the Bhagavad Gita.

Nagara Sankeerthana by children and bhajans by adults of the Koota, Vote of Thanks by Anil Prabhu and a sumptuous lunch for all present rounded off the day’s program. The highlight of the program was a replica of a South Indian temple at the venue that created a divine ambience. Kudos to Shyamala Rao, the Cultural Committee Convenor, and her team for putting up a brilliant show.
