Daijiworld Media Network - Belagavi (SP)

Belagavi, Jul 23: In an incident which happened on Wednesday July 22, angry relatives of a patient infected with coronavirus, who died in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) here, gave vent to their anger by vandalizing the place and setting an ambulance on fire. The incident happened near the COVID ward of BIMS.

The person who tested positive for corona infection had been brought here in an ambulance from Athani. He was admitted into the ICU and was being treated. But he breathed his last there without responding to treatment.

As soon as they came to know that the patient had died, his relatives of the patient gathered in front of the hospital and raised hue and cry. Developing cold feet at the sight of the agitated crowd, ambulance driver and nurses rushed into the hospital building. The infuriated mob then tried to attack the doctors. The crowd then attacked a police vehicle and smashed the window glasses of cars parked there. They also entered some wards and vandalized the places. The police succeeded in dousing the flames of the ambulance which was burning, and dispersing the crowd.

Deputy commissioner of the district M G Hiremath, superintendent of police Laxman Nimbargi, police commissioner Tyagaraj, and zilla panchayat chief executive officer Rajendra, visited the spot and undertook scrutiny.

This is deplorable act . After all ambulances are hardly available and are most essential . Doctors nurses and other paramedics always bear the brunt of public anger but what must be understood that these people are humans , employs like others and work tirelessly leaving their near and dear ones . Targeting them is Sin and a criminal act . If u want to vent your anger then catch hold of some politicians who are minting money in this pandemic through different scams .

Other day in Bangalore a patient recovered and come, society/ people jeered at him and he committed suicide.
Today in Belagavi, patient died and relatives torching Ambulance and hospital.
God save the civilized from such insane minds.
No moral policing, human rights activists, social reformers or administration could so far tame such masses. Where are we heading? They think life and death is absolutely in the hands of Doctors/Nurses.

There could be a reason for the madness. Delay in taking the patient to hospital might be one. Being admitted and being treated are two different things.

Ajay R.Kallyanpur, dear,Corona doesnt come within a day. They must have prolonged to take him and treat.second once they torch ambulance ,or gather together and vandalize hospital wards ,brake windows of police van, died person will not come back.Of course one mourns when person dies, but not vandalize.should be a little normal thinking should be there. So many people gathering is also not allowed when corona is diagnosed by person.

    Frustratation......depression.. etc...
Covid has made our lives miserable. Fit and healthy people are now developing blood pressure and diabetes.
Here the hospital staff have done thier job but patient did not survive. He was taken by ambulance, no where its mentioned that he was not treated well. Still the relatives attacked.
I think we need lot of patience these days to overcome this new normal life.
