Mangaluru: Getting treated in hospitals getting extremely challenging

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 28: The experiences of people from the district makes it clear that getting treated for ailments has been getting more and more difficult. The experiences of a few people make this notion completely lucid.

A person from Sullia was initially treated for rat fever, but his headache persisted. During scans at a Puttur hospital, it became clear that he had clots in the brain. He was immediately admitted into a medical college hospital at Mangaluru Immediately upon admission. His throat swab sample was collected as a corona test is a must. The report took three days to arrive. Till the report was received, no treatment was started even for the blood clot in the brain. The treatment began a day after the report came.

In another incident, a person who had gone up a tree to harvest jackfruit slipped down, fell and suffered serious injuries. He got admitted into the hospital but had to wait for three days for the corona report before the treatment began.

In private hospitals and medical college hospitals too, there is pressure to conduct COVID tests and heaps of samples are yet to be tested. As a result, people getting admitted for various treatments including emergency treatments have to wait. Many people have suffered in this way. Some have lost life after treatment was denied during the lockdown. There are some who are unable to get treatment after getting an indication about the beginning stage of cancer.

Some hospitals are functioning with 50 per cent of usual staff strength including doctors. In addition to corona test pressure, some doctors have become corona positive. Same is the case with some laboratory staff. Therefore, the shortage of staff has become a grave problem.

In some cases, the hospital administrations have cut down the salary of doctors and other staff to meet the lockdown losses. Mainly the junior doctors are facing the heat. All these factors have made it difficult for patients to get treatment in leading hospitals.

These days everybody is trying to make money in the name of Covid. Hope some racket is not going on in the name of Corona virus to extract more money from the Central Govt. Patients are not given the Test reports but told verbally that they are positive, also more and more contradicting Test reports are coming when tested in Pvt Labs etc. I wonder whether people are really dying bcoz of the Virus or due to negligence in treating their other ongoing illnesses.

    SriRamalu was right?

Doctors should wear PPE, gloves, masks and should treat patients immediately for ailments. Who passed those instructions to wait for Corona results.. ? Really stupid

Covid patients are normally kept in a separate ward. If hospitals admit all patients into same ward, if anyone is positive he may infect others. Then everyone will complain that they got it from the hospital.

@Reality - hello, i am saying such method is wrong.
If there are no covid symptoms, then why they are waiting for covid results.
While preliminary check, doctors can makeout whether patients need covid test or not..
Why private hospitals are making that covid tests mandatory for emergency patients?
If you are under emergency, can you wait for 3 days for the treatment to start?

    sri_elder, Karkala,
I agree. Emergency patients should be treated quickly. Each life is precious. If not treated, do we really need hospitals?
