Byndoor, Jul 30: A lady from Spain, who was on a South India tour, got stuck here due to unexpected clamping of lockdown. She has been staying at Heranjalu for the last four months. She goes to prove that lockdown, which has resulted in multifarious problems for several, has provided some with new experiences.
Teresa from Spain has been living in the house of Krishna Poojary from Heranjalu. She has totally adjusted herself to rural life. Being a creative personality, she has shown an active interest in farming and has been taking part in agriculture with family members. With loads of organic manure on her head, she moves about and unloads the same in the fields and gardens. She has been trained by Poojary's mother Chikkamma Poojary, in drawing Rangoli, milking cows, and also weaving mats out of coconut fronds. She has learnt to utter some words from Kundapur Kannada language and is trying to write some Kannada alphabets. She says she has fallen in love with home-made eatables like Kotte Kadubu, idli, dosa, chicken sukka, fish curry, and vegetable sambar.
At the sight of a newcomer, Teresa greets them in Kundapur Kannada and enquires about their well being. On the occasion of Kundapur Kannada Day that was celebrated recently, the family members had taught her to utter the sentence, 'Kundapura Bhasi Chend Gompi (Kundapur Kannada language is beautiful)' which she keeps on uttering but her diction is like that of the Spanish language.
Krishna Poojary works for an American company in Mumbai. Teresa's elder brother happens to be Poojary's colleague. Therefore, Krishna has known Teresa for the past eight years. "Our relationship transcends country borders. Teresa is facing problems, having been unable to return home because of lockdown. We have asked her to stay with our family. She has learnt some Kannada words and has been taking part in all activities with total enthusiasm. She has turned into a girl next door in our village," Krishna Poojary says happily.
