Mangalore, Mar 21: Defending the move of bringing in anti cow slaughter law, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa termed it as an historical move.

Addressing presspersons at the Circuit House on Sunday March 21, Yeddyurappa in the government’s defense said that cow slaughter was the practice introduced by the British to divide people in the name of the religion. A peek into the history also shows that during Akbar’s rule the cow slaughter was banned, he said.

Congress leaders Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru apart from Vinobha Bhave and B R Ambedkar too supported the ban. It is ironical that Congress is now opposing the ban, he said. Gujarat, Madhyapradesh, Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir have already banned the cow slaughter, he said and observed that though the centre has banned lottery, arrack and not cow slaughter.

CM said that there would be an increased need for grazing land to support the likely growth in the cattle population once the law is enforced.

As a step to increase the power capacity in the state, CM said that the state has already purchased 1,000 mw power. The state further plans to produce 5,000 mw power.

Elaborating on the development works in the district, CM said that Rs 100 crore fund has been made available to Mangalore City Corporation for development works. On the district sub jail, Yeddyurappa said that the jail will be shifted soon and the works will be suspended at the earliest. The government is surveying the land for sub jail and the existing will be converted into complex or the like, he said.

He stressed that there is a need to protect farmers’ interest as the country is based on agriculture and announced that arecanut growers will get support price of Rs 75. The government has already provided Rs 5 crore for Campco to enable purchase of arecanut from growers. If needed arises a crore more will be made available, he said. A committee will soon send a report to central government with details on arecanut growers’ problems and its production.

CM was here on Saturday and Sunday to participate in Shriramanama Taraka Yajna at Kalladka near Bantwal.

    Prabhakar,

With due respect. Then, why include all bovine animals in the proposed bill ? Why cows are there ? To produce milk right ? What do you do with old cows ? Leave them to die a slow death, abandoned by their owners because they don't want to feed them for no income ? On the other hand, what about the bulls/buffalos ? Won't their number increase to surpass humans as it happens with monkeys now ? A cow/bull/buffalo menace perhaps ? Lets think logically !

    Roshan,

A child requires food apart from the mother's milk only when the mother cannot produce in sufficient quantity. A mother will not be able to produce it for various reasons, unhappiness is one of the reasons. A suffering mother cannot produce milk.

Is it the child alone who consumes cow's milk ? What about those who sell milk ? Do they ensure that the milk will be given only to a suffering mother's child ? How about milk (cow's blood) used in worship ?

I have never said that killing an animal is a happy experience caused by me to it. I say killing it is as painful as sucking its blood out for commercial purpose.

Values of India are man-made. Ancient man lived on domesticated animals' meat - he had no sadhu/pandits to direct him - his only worry was survival. Even today, those tribals depend on domesticated animals' meat but your cultural protectors don't bother to respect their source of food - but their embracing some religion to make the life easy is surely a concern. Why ? are the tribals a copy right of Hinduism ? If their religious belief is your copyright, why can't your principles not made lenient to accommodate a tribal's food habit ? Nevertheless, why these principle imposers don't impose total non-vegetarianism ? Go - follow them, be a vegetarian and influence to impose that on all Indians ? Does democracy apply to you or are you a slave of their dictatorship ? Good luck !

Hi Lydia.. I guess it's your ignorance that is making you talk like this. I have seen all my life.. how kids have been fed, including myself. It is not just our biological mother milk, besides cow's milk as well. And when i said cow community, it includes all...including buffalo's.

I guess for extracting milk, if you think it is cruel, how cruel it can be to kill it...? As far as permission is concerned... how many have you asked permission to kill a animal..? I havent found any healthy human who gave permission to kill himself. Then who are you to think....you can kill the innocent animal. So..for taking it's milk and consuming it for living, we protect that animal and regard it highly in our society. Such moral values will be only found here in India... or else it is like the desert countries, as you said which take all favours from goats and camels by consuming milk and the next day when they don't give milk kill them and eat them. Just like
those kids who put their parents out, once they become old and when they no more need them.

The value system in India teaches one to be grateful for taking favours, unlike others... just use and throw.

And Lydia... this is not a arguement. What i am talking is true and real moral values. Which people will understand only if they have a golden heart. And regarding all those people who come within the religion and eat,i guess they have not been in touch with the true values of india,
    influenced by western culture.

    Roshan nice explanation.
When one of our friends offers a rum or beer at a club , we never forget to say a "Thank you".

Similarly its symbolic gesture to say "thank you" to the unselfish and greats gifts the animals and plants provide in our life. Instead of thanking all animals/plants, the choosen animal to show this gesture was cow (as you stated its importance)., and tulsi, neem for plants. In today's world of climate warming, going green , its amazing to see this ancient gesture in our lands to respect animals , plants and nature

Its such a cultural value that will bring about ethical actions towards ..all animal and plants.

Having a law for this is not required, if people fail to understand it... A cultural value will be rediscovered as time pass by....We are already seeing signs in western world the craze for green ,clean energy, organic food, products not tested on animals, . anti-fur campaigns, salads..

    my 2 paisa thoughts..

    Roshan,

Offsprings of a mammal have their own mother to take food from. Then, why should humans extract milk from an animal ? Did you take the cow's permission before milking it ? Is it not cruel to suck out the milk that is meant for its calf ?

It is not only cow that is giving milk - goats do. In desert countries camels are milked. So, goats and camels are too equivalent to mother ? What about buffalos ? Stop this silly argument.

Find out how many people who come within the religion that worships cow consume beef.

I believe it's a historic thing to do. First of all i want to tell people that the term "Hindus" refers to citizen of hindustan, like how we refer to "americans" for being citizen of america. That actually means everyone is "hindus". Ancient indians never ever believed in religion. Religion always devided people. They only believed in "sanatana dharma" where everyone was considered equal. But it is sad to see how the country is going through with the kind of people it's very sad indeed.

The reason cow slaughter was banned earlier in india has much more significance than any other motive. There are many reason, i shall talk about a few. Firstly we were fed by the cow community, it is only next to our mother, who fed us with its milk, during the time when we didn't even have teeth to have food, thus being the reason for our survival. And it is still feeding our children and grand children. Secondly it was used for various need of ours like farming and from it came many of our daily food needs, besides it was used as our transport mode. But how selfish are we..just for our pleasure of eating we dont even remember the favour it has done to us. It's only in country like INDIA..we see such moral values which exist. No other country will ever have it. I AM PROUD TO BE A INDIAN.

So just keep your religion and political issues aside and have a moral thinking towards some creature which has helped our survival.WE ARE ALL HUMAN.God has given a better thinking brain to be a better soul

    Dear Readers,

According Karl Marx Religion is opium to Communism. In US as well Western countries Religion is separated from  State and Politics. In nut shell we should not mix the religion with state. If it is mixed there is NO development of state. Our Politicians first preference is Religion.

The Person is sitting in Place of President/PM/CM should consider their duty first and religion which is always secondary. If Hon. CM giving preference to Religion then what development Karnataka can expect.

    Dear Readers,

Andra Pradesh Govt banned liquor sale in their state. The end Result, within year many people ( Politician , Police, bootlegger, smugglers etc ) become millioner and State Govt treasury lost by millions.
If this bill become law then lakh of butchers loosing their daily bread and not only that Law become a Red Carpet to Smuggler,Police dept ( HAFTA VASOOLI )and Politician who earn in millions.

Secondly, in Mangalore and its surrounding areas, we can not find a single cow in cow shed.
    Reason :-
    1.Old age people
    2.Cattle feed become too costly
3.Due to labor problem & rain water, No cultivation of Rice leading NO dry grass from Paddy field.
    4.Availably of Nandini Ready milk.

What Govt will take action for old aged cows. If they providing subsidy to GO SHALAS then its another Flood Gate for Corruption

"Anti Cow Slaughter Law" is a communal Bill divided rule of law.It is a just a brain-wash on Hindu's to gain theier vote easily without any pain. This man is very much concerned about the this bill rather than other problems in the state like Poverty, Un-employment,Helahtcare Services,Power Supply, Education, Transportation Systems,Financial Assistance, Farmers Issues..etc. For any developing country this kind of leader is a- "Curse of 21st century".Any good leader need to see a ahead of 25 years like Congress brought computer Technology in India 25 years ago and now India is a super Power in computer Knowledge, Current PM is signing Engery and defence deals with foreign country that means India going to Defence super power in the region as time goes. But this CM is trying divide the families, neighbours, friends, Soceity, province, District and State on the basis of religion.

Well.. Well.. Yeddy govt. creates grazing land for the cows.

Good Job Yeddy Govt.! Also establish additional 'Goshaala' to accommodate the old cows a farmer will let off as neither he has means to feed them nor the old cows will bring him any income ?

Secondly, invent a method to scan if the calf will be a male or a female and to abort the male fetus. Because, a farmer will not need many bulls - just a pair is enough to get his dozen of cows conceived as well as to tilling purpose. In the past he had been selling a male calf. Its best hereafter to ensure that the future calf will be a female. Justifiable ! Because we humans too killed our female fetus - didn't we ? Because a girl child was dowry-burdon - so will be a lone bull ? You either have them in pair to plough or do not have them at all ? Excellent ! How soon is the bill being enacted into a law ?
