Mangaluru: Gurupur landslide - 69 houses to be built at three locations for affected families

Mangaluru, Aug 19: Two children had died due to a landslide that occurred at Gurpur earlier in July. As many as 73 families have been shifted to safer places. The administration is paying them monthly rent of Rs 2,500. Sixty-nine houses for these families will be built in apartment building style at three places in the taluk.

In the survey that was conducted by NITK under the taluk limits, 200 to 260 houses are in danger zone and need to be shifted soon. Families living in such houses will be shifted soon. This information was shared by tahsildar Guruprasad in the general body meeting of taluk panchayat which was presided over by president Mohammed Monu.

In the same meeting, it was urged to take action against people who have grabbed Gomala land (pasture land for community use). Tahsildar said that Gomala lands will be identified with the land records through survey and legal action will be taken against the encroachers.

"Rs 10 crore grant is released for Moodbidri taluk, which is formed separately from Mangaluru taluk. This has helped the development of the taluk," said Mohammed Monu. Eight members have already got transferred to Moodbidri taluk from Mangaluru taluk. Monu urged the members to put efforts to make the new taluk a developed one.

"Bridge construction and road widening is in progress at the main district road at Ganjimatt-Kuppepadav road. It will be completed soon. According to the guidelines of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation, sites under gram panchayat limits will be distributed to the eligible people of the same gram panchayat only," said the concerned official.

The official further said, "Beneficiaries of pension will get the pension deposited to their bank accounts directly through online. There is no need for them to approach the office to link their Aadhar card to their bank account. If they send the bank passbook and Aadhar cards through WhatsApp, the linking will be done by the department. There are some litigations between certain gram panchayats, which will be resolved soon after conducting the survey."

Poornima, Mangaluru taluk vice-president, Sadananda, executive officer, members of taluk panchayat, members of various gram panchayats and officials of various departments were present.
