Puttur: Grand ‘Brahma Ratha’ Dedicated to Lord Mahalingeshwara

Puttur, Mar 23: As thousands of devotees present raised slogans hailing Lord Mahalingeshwara, N Muttappa Rai Derla dedicated the new chariot (Brahma Ratha) built under his leadersip, to Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple here, at the auspicious time of 10.15 am on Monday March 22.
Religious guide of the temple, Brahmasri Kuntar Ravish Tantry, led the religious rituals connected with the occasion. The new chariot, which is 71 feet high, is claimed to be the biggest chariot of South India. Muttappa Rai said, he had been dreaming of dedicating a new chariot to the temple, in replacement of the present Brahma Ratha, which is several hundred years old, since the last four decades.
People from various parts of the state were present to witness the occasion. Before the chariot was handed over to the temple, the Kalasha was installed atop the chariot. Those who were involved with the building of the chariot were honoured by handing over to them the holy Kalashas and Prasadam.
On this occasion, Sahasra Kumbabhisheka was performed to Lord Mahalingeshwara, followed by Dikpala Kalashibhisheka and Shikhara Pratishte.
After the chariot was handed over, Maha Puja was conducted and Prasadam was distributed to the devotees. A community feast had also been arranged at the temple.
