Chitradurga, Aug 23: A man who allegedly stole bulls was stripped and paraded on a donkey in Hiriyur taluk here. An FIR has been lodged and nine people have been arrested in the case.
The accused was caught by people after he allegedly stole bulls at Saraswatigate Soorappanahatti in Hiriyur taluk of the district.
Eshwar, the alleged cow thief, was initially tied to a pole and beaten mercilessly by the villagers. He was then stripped and made to sit on a donkey. He was taken in procession throughout the village, as per media reports.
The district administration, which came to know about the incident through media, took immediate action and a case is registered against the villagers who were involved in the inhumane act. Nine people have been arrested in this connection.
DC Kavita S Mannikeri gave verbal orders to the police to take immediate action against the culprits. Accordingly, Hiriyoor rural station police, who got the details from alleged cow thief Eshwar, registered case against Gundajjara Menappa, Kariyappa, Kittappa, Ramanna, Jayappa, Kittappa, Manjappa, Jayappa, Balappa and others under IPC sections 143, 147, 323, 355, 504, 506 and 149.
Eshwar had allegedly stolen the bulls that were tied in front of the house of Balanna on August 20. On August 21, Eshwar was allegedly taking the stolen bulls to sell in the market on the road. He was noticed during this time and caught by Keremundalahatti Ramanna and Jayappa.
Eshwar was brought to the village in a bike. He was allegedly abused, slapped, his clothes were removed and was made to sit on a donkey and taken in procession throughout the village of Soorappanahatti by Menappa, Kariyappa and Kittappa. They also allegedly tortured the donkey and acted in an inhuman manner. Now they are under police custody.
