Sreenivasa Murthy Appointed KERS Chairman

Bangalore, Mar 23: Karnataka’s Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Department M R Sreenivasa Murthy has been appointed as the next chairman of the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission.



Murthy, an efficient and non-controversial IAS officer, who has held key positions in the administrations of successive governments in the past, enjoyed very good equations with chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

With his appointment as KERC chairman, Murthy, who would have retired when he completes 60 years, gets an extension of service till he attains 65 years.

Murthy joined the IAS in 1976 and has been working as Principal Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Department since June 2007. 

During his 34 years of service, he has held many important assignments in the State Government including Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchyath Raj, Principal Secretary, Housing Commissioner, Bangalore Mahanagar Palike, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, KSRTC, Excise Commissioner and  Additional Secretary to Chief Minister to Late Veerendra Patil.

Murthy has also served under the Central Government as Principal Secretary, Election Commission of India, New Delhi, and Controller, ISRO Satellite Centre, Department of Space, Bangalore.
