Mangalore, Mar 24: Four houses adjacent to the National Highway 48 near Valachhil, Adyar, were damaged on Wednesday March 24 during highway widening work.

The incident took place late on the night of Tuesday March 23 while a roller was leveling one side of the widened highway. The houses were damaged as the resistant wall constructed for the road collapsed.

The roof and walls of the houses were partially damaged after the incident. The residents were alerted and no injuries were reported.

The houses are situated near the resistant wall where the front portion of the houses was acquired for the national highway. Mohammad, a resident, said that the danger of residing in the houses had been predicted.

“The officials did not accept our proposal to acquire the houses also. So we have to live in fear after this incident”, he added.

Some other residents said that the resistant wall has been constructed using red bricks which are not durable and strong enough and must instead be built of stone.

The residents urged the deputy commissioner of the district to visit the spot in the hope that he will help them.

MR. Hamza, please know the system. Know what projects are undertaken by whom and then comment. It seem like you are trying to find fault in one particular political party by twisting facts. It shows your sheer ignorance.
Grow up and see things impartially and comment.

There is no hidden conspiracy behind this incident...anybody can easily guess this incident happened only because of highway constructor and due to their reckless work. Neither the central govt nor the state govt. are held responsible for this act. But, as National highway come under central govt. so, its obligatory that they must regulate the safety precaution during work and also must punish the contractors for their careless work to avoid any other similar incident happening anytime anywhere...Jai hind..Jai Karnatak

There is a rule that 30 mts in both side from the middle of existing road is govt property & no construction can be done there. but these houses doesent seems to be 30 mts away from the road.

you are correct.according to you all resposibility should be taken by the state government and credit is only to the central government because of sole reason that BJP is in state. It is very strange that inspite of revoluationary infrastructure development by BJP people are trying to connect some issue with BJP government. We should develop the habit of appreciating good things and commenting on bad irrespective of party community and caste which is true intention of democracy.

Mr T.K. Hamza Mukesh is right in some point. Don't simply blame to BJP for every issue because you hate that party. National Highway projects belongs to central Govt and it is controlled by them. But this is not their fault as well. Contractors are responsible for this mistake. They have to consider all the safety measurement before they do something. Unfortunately this work has contracted by stupid company. Hope central govt will take the action against the contractors

Dear Mukesh, Assume that this is a central governments project, you mean to say no responsibility of state government what so ever towards its citizens, is this govt. blind folded.

The people involved in the project, mainly contractors and Engineers need to attend a crash course at nearby KREC about the basics!! But they need to forget about side money for ignoring the basics of Highway engineering! Highlight the ignorance/ mischief and disqualify them! Why only one set of section is making money from the tax coffin?
