Bantwal, Mar 28: “Language, which was born to express emotions, is now a reason for violence. This is a major tragedy; language should help integrate society”, said veteran writer Yerya Laxminayana Alva at the inaugural of the two-day Dravida Janapada Kalamela in Padmanabha Nagar at B C Road, organized by a committee in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Saturday March 27.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the respect for language and culture has decreased in recent years and it will do so further in future. “The declined respect for language will lead to the death of the language and culture related to it”, he added.
The Kalamela has been organized with the view of preserving traditional art forms of Dravidian culture in Tulunadu. The two-day programme will focus more on folk culture. MLA from Bantwal constituency Ramanath Rai presided over the function.
Nagaraja Shetty, chairman, Coastal Development Authority, inaugurated the colourful procession near Kaikamba prior to the programme. The procession with umbrellas of various colours, folk dances, and with other art forms, attracted the public.
