Mumbai, Mar 29:
Celebrations and festivities marked the holy occasion of 'Palm Sunday' in churches across the metro. The parishioners of Holy Family church, Chakala, Andheri (East), also celebrated Palm Sunday on March 28.

Fr Jerome D’Souza, parish priest, Holy Family parish, Chakala, and Holy Family High School principal Fr Francis Swamy blessed the palms and celebrated the Holy Mass.

Palm Sunday is the sixth and last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of the Holy Week. In this context, celebrations marked the atmosphere here and at several other places.

Holy prayers to emphasize the celebratory atmosphere regarding Jesus Christ riding into Jerusalem as per ancient scriptures, began in churches across the metro from early Sunday morning whereby the palm was blessed by the priests of various congregations.

After this, the holy palm was brought to the respective churches in a colorful procession, passing through different parts of the metro. The parishioners carrying the palms with deep devotion and prayers, followed the musical bands. Holy Mass was offered by the parish priests of their respective parishes.

The entire atmosphere was permeated with religious fervour due to the melodious choir and the enchantment of prayers and devotional songs sung in praise of the Lord. A warm welcome was accorded to the Lord, who was remembered with utmost devotion by all those present on the occasion.
