Udupi, Sep 4: A team of expert interventional cardiologists led by Dr Tom Devasia, professor and head of the department of cardiology, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal on August 29 performed a live case transmission outside the institution, for the rest of the country.
It was a live case demonstration of a complex coronary block which was treated by interventional cardiology specialists in the Cath lab with the help of advanced and latest in coronary imaging technology OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) 3D application. It is for the first time that the institute is participating in a live case transmission on a national level that is being transmitted live all across India.
Dr Sharath K Rao, dean of KMC appreciated the work done by the cardiology team and said, “Our institution has always focused on teaching and learning. Now we are doing it on a national and global level with the help of advanced technology."
C G Muthana, chief operating officer of Kasturba Hospital remarked that with the help of advanced technology and communication facility, it is very easy for the doctors to communicate with the doctors in the rest of the country and the world and that this is necessary for the present situation.
Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital said, “It reflects the high level of skill and experience of our doctors, and the advanced up-to-date technology equipment we use, which is at par with the rest of the world.”
The programme named COMPLEX CARDIOLOGY LIVE, LEARN FROM THE MASTERS was watched live by other interventional cardiologists in other parts of our country. All the attendees were interventional cardiologists across the country. The programme was appreciated very well.
